Default Wheels peeling

Can anyone advise me what to do? If you can view pic you will see how bad they are. Now all four wheels are doing same thing.

Your wheels need to be refinished.

It was probably a crappy chrome plating job to begin. The wheels on my wife's IS convertible have crappy aftermarket chrome plating, but yours are 50x worse than hers.

A good chrome plating job includes copper and nickel plating before the chrome plating. It doesn't look like yours were properly prepped at all before the chroming (neither were my wife's wheels - we didn't do it, it came like that from the dealer).

What do you use to wash your wheels?

Yes that is what I have been told but price quote for refinishing is almost as much as new ones. My issue is Lexus should not allow a dealership to sell their vehicles if they have an defects. They started doing this about 6 months after I purchased the vehicle. I also was told that 2008 other owners had same issues

My guess is that the dealerships get a really crappy chrome plating job done for about $200, and then can mark up the price of the car anywhere from $500-$1500 for "custom chrome wheels". A good chrome plating should cost at least $200 per wheel, and if you have to strip an existing plating (as opposed to starting with an painted or anodized aluminum wheel) is an extra $50 per wheel.

If your car is still under warranty I would take them back to the dealer and ask for new ones or have these wheels refinished by them. If they say no I would highly suggest sending an email, letter and even calling Lexus corporate and file a complaint. I wouldn't be surprised that they do something for you.

Having the same problem on my wheels. car is a 2009 RX350 Chrome is peeling inside each cutout on the wheel not so much on the face of the wheel. One i have had to take back and have the tire bead redone because the chrome is not causing tire to leak. These rims were also from lexus. After research I can see they sent out all their wheels to local places for chrome not factory. Have thought about contacting lexus about it. A 2009 car should not have this happening and my car is not neglected.
