Default questions need help please...

hello all..

I just purchased a 99 LX 470 and have a few questions for those in the know. First...if you have the gold package, does it come direct from the factory? I was told it is aftermarket and some is fading out and I would like to get it redone. Any idea on cost? Secondly...the wheels are chrome, is this an available option in 99, or was that an aftermarket too? They are ????? don't know what to call it. The best description I can come up with....or what I think happened, is that someone used a cleaner that was not to be used on chrome and they are bubbling??? or something. Sorry I do not know what to call that. Is there anything I can do to make that look good? Is there such thing as rechroming? If so, what cost am I looking at? Would it be cheaper to just get new wheels?

Thanks for suggestions/help

Welcome to ClubLexus,

The gold emblems are not OEM. They are aftermarket and usually offered by the dealer when purchasing a new Lexus. (I was offered them). Some owners add them later. Dealers offer them installed for $400+. I've seen kits sell on eBay for $140. Depending on your skil/comfort level, you can install them.

Here's some links on debadging:

Your wheels? Pics would help.

I can say that repairing/restoring/rechroming wheels is generally a costly proposition...and unless you've got some really expensive wheels, skip it. I can't judge your particular problem without more info.

Good luck.
