Default Advice On Removing Water Spots From Glass

I have a problem with water spots on the windshield and other exterior glass after washing car. I get water spots and cannot get them out with windex or a couple other glass cleaners I have tried. I polish the glass with a dry cloth and paper after cleaning but the water spots remain.
Does anyone know of a product or method for removing water spots after washing a car?
Thanks for any advice
Ron

Default Barkeepers Friend

A guy at a local detail shop swears by a cleaning product called "Barkeepers Friend", I have not tried it myself but it is something I plan on trying. I'm not sure of the abrasive properties of it, since I use it to clean my stainless steel cookware (it is great for that) so I would use light pressure and rinse well.

You can buy this stuff at your local grocery store too!

ron,

First try a 50/50 mix of vinegar and water. Many waterspots are easily removed with this solution.

You may also try Clay Magic or some other brand of detailers/overspray clay. I clay my windshield a couple times a year. It really cleans away many contaminants, and will improve vision and wiper performance.

You may see great results with less aggressive methods before resorting to abrasive products.

Good luck.

I've used newspapers before, they work good but you have to be careful because some cleaners will transfer the ink from the paper to your glass! not a big problem but a PITA. Plain white paper way to go.

Default Thanks to all

OK guys, here is my decision. I am going to start with the vinegar/water mix. Daddy-o has often given me right-on info so I am going to try his method first. If that does not solve my problem then I will work my way through the other recommendations. I will put everything to the test this week-end and will report back Monday.
Thanks again to all that contributed.
If anyone else has some recommendations please feel free to contribute.

Default VINEGAR/WATER MIX WORKED

Here is the promised report. I used the 50/50 vinegar/water solution and it worked great. Can't even tell a windshield exists.
Again, thanks Daddy-o for the excellent tip.

This is going to sound a bit crazy, but what kind of vinegar do you recommend?

I'm assuming NOT wine vinegar / balsamic but would you recommend using white vinegar or normal apple cider vinegar? I've usually used the white variety for cleaning stuff like coffee pots, etc.

Either white or apple cider vinegar will work.

I personally use white vinegar, as I dislike the smell of apple cider vinegar.

Default Dave GS4

Yes Dave, I used white vinegar with a 50/50 water solution. Saved me a lot of time because you only have to clean the glass once and it is CLEAN> I removed the mix with paper towels.

I use the blue stuff in the winter with P21S Windshield Wash Booster added.

I generally use water with P21S Windshield Wash Booster added in the summer.

Default Water spot removal

The best product I've used for glass cleaning is made by Stoner called "Invisible Glass"

This has been the best product I've found to clean glass of ALL waterspots, debris, etc. It does what it says! The glass is sooooo clean!

You can find out about it from Stoner at:

Stoner Invisible Glass

Just follow the directions, and you will have glass as clean as can be!

Hope this helps,

Regards,
Deanski
