I have never had anything like this happen.
Really now!

Some places use an acid base cleaner on rims to remove the brake dust that gets embedded into the paint. If you have had your rims cleaned at a drive thru car wash most likely that cleaner has caused the damage to the paint. There is not much you can do to fix it other than getting the rim repainted.

Wow, your damage is identical to mine!

Agree 100%. I'm getting them resprayed by my alloy wheel repair guy tomorrow.

The funny thing is that my damage is ONLY to the passenger side wheels. And I've been to this car wash dozens of times with no issues. This leads me to believe that the guy working the passenger side fell asleep on the job and forgot to throughly spray off the cleaner. The strong cleaner sat on the rims, especially inside the wheel. As I drove off, it ran out and down the spokes of the wheel and dried. By the time I noticed, it was too late. I don't think I'll be going back to this car wash any time soon. Sucks, because it's a hand-wash and they usually do a great job.
