I'm planning to buy a DA polisher, I plan to start learning detailing as a hobby this year. Any other good alternatives I rather not cheap out and having to upgrade down the line.

I would highly recommend the Griot's Garage 3rd Generation Polisher. This DA machine is a compact size, very easy to use, more powerful than the similar sized Porter Cable 7424XP, and best of all includes a lifetime warranty from the manufacturer.
The MT300 does have a slightly higher maximum OPM, however I do not think you will find a real difference in performance between the two machines as they are both small stroke machines.
I'd recommend picking up a 5" backing plate and 3" backing plate for the Griot's machine along with a selection of pads to get you started. Depending on the current condition of your vehicle, I typically recommend the Orange Light Cutting Pad, White Polishing Pad, and Black Finishing pad as a starter set.
Let me know if you've got any questions.
