I was ready to touch up tiny paint chip on the front edge of my hood when it slipped down, my hand (holding the touch up bottle) went up, and a splotch of paint landed the hood. Doh!

What's the simplest way to remove the splotch without damaging the paint? Thanks.

You should have immediately wiped the paint away before it began to dry.

Assuming it has now dried completely, I would start with a chemical such as mineral spirits to see if that will help, otherwise it will need to be wet sanded then properly corrected.

Thanks, Zach, for your reply. I used the wrong word to describe what's there - smear would be more accurate. As soon as it happened I did reflexively wipe the bulk of the paint off with my t-shirt (ruining one of my favorite shirts in the process!). So I'm left with a thin film/smear. I'm hoping this will make it easier to deal with.

Went to my body shop guy; he took a bit of laquer thinner on a soft cloth and removed the smears in about 30 seconds. Thanks again for the help!

That's exactly what I would have done, but I am sure not going to tell anyone else to do it to their car. Glad it worked.

It would've been fine to make the suggestion - it's my responsibility (I screwed up to begin with, after all). Thanks.
