A gentle spray off every now and again with a towel off will not hurt anything. I never use any cleaner, degreaser and whatnot though.

When I first got my car I just took off all of the plastic covers that the engine compartment has like the radiator fan and fan cover, Aircleaner filter box. Inside the airbox was really dirty. Under all the pastic stuff was dirt from years past.

I scrubbed those down good and wiped them with Armor all.......... After that I just started wiping the rest of the engine off with a rag. Some small parts I took off too to clean them better and was easy to take off and put back on. My fan was white again after I cleaned it.

I dont hose off my engine but I do around the radiator & sides of the engine compartment when I wash my car. When Im done washing the outside of the car I wiped down the engine too.

Once I got my engine cleaned up good its easy to keep it that way. The 1st time it took me all day but it was worth it. Now I have it detailed with color hoses, steal braided and a BLITZ air cleaner. LOOKS GREAT. I even added the colored grounding system.

Good luck......... TAKE YOUR TIME.

After cleaning the engine compartment, I use Engine Detailer (silver can) from Autozone. Not only makes all the black plastic and rubber parts look like new, but it protects them with a coat of silicone.
