+1 aka the magic grease you can use this on all of the rubber seals i.e. engine, trunk, interior doors etc... I have been using it with great success and still have yet to see the rubber crack also help with the squeaky noise as well,.
Get into those cracks and crevices with a thin qtip
Curious will this this leave a greasy residue remaining? Just thinking about brushing up against the door jab and getting it on my clothes. Ive uses Aerospace 303 with good success.
All you have to do is wipe off the excess grease. Most car makers state in the owners manual that silicone grease is recommended. I've used it for years and it keeps the w-strip soft and pliable.
I am a big fan of 303 but the Shin Etsu grease is the stuff to use on your rubber door seals....... Use it on ALL your cars and a tube goes a long way.
Im no chemist but if it was poisonous it would've probably been recalled years ago, this stuff has been out since early 2000s from what I recall used to remedy squeaky s2000 convertible tops as well as create better seal and prolong it.
Dont need to scoop up a tube and go crazy with it, just put on some latex gloves and massage it in. It will look like the below once done.

Huh? There are tens of thousands of products that are poisonous. The point is especially if you have kids don't put products on your car that children will touch and possibly ingest. Common sense.
k20trick. So, what's the name of the stuff you use?
Shin Etsu Grease (white tube). Application was done years ago photo taken yesterday to show condition. Pretty sure its more important to older cars, but An Ounce of Prevention Is Worth a Pound of Cure

I guess but children have access to way more dangerous stuff than rubber seals, Im pretty sure as babies we all had toys we put in our mouths even when we were told not to, god knows how many times its been in plenty of hands, dropped on the floor, etc... and its not like your leaving a blob of it that can transfer over to something if touched, just using enough to have the product absorbed into the rubber to keep it from drying out and cracking, wipe excess with microfiber to ensure no excess product is left behind.

Do you take any steps to prevent kids from handling these products? Or do you smear it on things they routinely touch.

Each his own I guess.
How much absorbs how much remains transferable? Do you know? I glanced over the data sheet it says to wear gloves when handling, if skin contact immediately wash with soap for 15 minutes. If ingested call 9-1-1. To each his own indeed.

To each his own indeed, if your worried about the possibility of transfer don't use it or maybe find an alternative you feel safer with.
