What happened to my clear coat?
Hey guys,
The previous owner of my '06 IS350 put on a cheap clear bra (some eBay brand). It was on the car for about ~6 months and I took it off because it was yellow and cracked. But it left a discoloration on my clear coat. I tried to hand buff it with some rubbing compound, but no effect. To the touch, there is no difference in texture between the light and dark parts of the paint.
Anyone ever had to deal with this? Looking for some advice from the community on how to fix this. My best guess is to try fine sand the surface of the clear coat?
Thanks!

May want to try goof off or polishing it. Don't wetsand it yet. Take a magnifying glass if see if you see anything on the surface. Since you said it feels exactly the same as the paint it is possible if that clear bra was on long enough that what you are seeing is the real color of the original paint because it was fully protected and the rest of your finish has faded somewhat over the years so there is a difference.

First try and take it off with a clay bar. Use Meguiar's clay kit. It wont hurt the finish and should take off any impurities on the clear coat. If that does not work you're going to have to try and color sand it off along with buffing. I agree that the difference in color might be from the sun not burning the clear bra area as much as the rest of the car. If that's the case then your only solution would be to repaint the front end and blend the paint job into the doors. It's silver so you'll have to blend into the doors to get it to look right.
