Default AC smell

on a new car (2000 miles)...my AC when turned on stinks initially..then goes away. This happens when the car is in the sun all day..

Is this suppsosed to happen, or do i have a messed up air filter?

Default vent it

Try this: turn the AC off and turn it to vent, to try to clear out the smell. It may be hot, but leave the ac off and the vent open for about an hour or two while driving. I had this problem too. It stopped after i did this.

It happens because the vents don't get a chance to dry out competely causing the smell. Water condenses and bacteria forms which gives you that moldy/musty smell. Defintely turn off your A/C at least 5 mins before you are going to shut down your car to park. This will help aleviate any bacteria to form in your vents as they cool off.

well the funny thing is that i dont really use the AC....i just open the windows..mainly cuz i live in cali and i work all day, so i miss most of the heat anyways...

but is that the reason as well....dont use the AC often?

Though I dont have an IS I can relate. It goes away 5 min after I turn off the A/C. It does however smell, but goes away immediately after the A/C is turned on again.

I'm moving this to the automotive care section because I know Daddy-O discovered a toyota kit that is built to take care of this problem...
