Default Fading on hood

I just purchased a 2001 LS 430. It is in good condition except the paint/clearcoat is fading on the front 3rd of the hood. I am just not sure if it is the clearcoat, or the actual paint. Does anyone have any suggestions on the best way to repair something like this?

That's nothing a little polishing compound and elbow grease can't handle. Looks to be some mild oxidation. Start with a light compound, then work your way up to a more aggressive one if needed. I'd suggest just doing it to the entire car so it matches, then finish with a paint sealant/wax. Might want to use a clay bar/mit before polishing, just to remove any contaminants. My go-to brand for polishes is Poorboys, but there are tons of different ones out there. Good luck!

Thanks for the reply. Is it weird that it is in almost a straight line like it is? I wonder why it only happened to this specific area?

It's possible they had it parked in an area where only the front was exposed to the elements.

Lawn sprinklers... that's my guess. It may not be oxidation but a surface contaminant like lime, scale or minerals from continued spray from a sprinklers. A good all in one product from Meguiar's, Turtle Wax or One Step (what I use), might take care of this easily. Machine polishing may not even be required.
