Question Spider web corrosion - wheel cap

Just notice recently that the highly polished aluminum center logo cap on my Lowenhart wheels shows sign of spider web corrosions. This usually happen in aluminum material with clear coat covering. I check with the dealer that sold me the wheels and they wanted $45 per cap excluding shipping (that $180 for 4)!!! The corrosion isn't very bad about 1/16 to 1/4" that from the edge of the caps.

I am thinking about trying to strip the clear coat and refinish it. Wonder if anyone have done this.

I've noticed this especially on Honda's machine-finished alloys. I had all the centercaps replaced on my long gone '95 Accord EX. My friend's '02 Accord EX V6's caps were just replaced and noticed that one of them is already starting to corrode, along with a small portion on the rim itself!?!

Had no problems with my long gone '97 Prelude SH and '01 IS300 (graphites).

Good luck!
