Hi all,
I am thinking of getting an IS and I like the Circuit Red interior. I keep my cars for 9 to 10 years and I sure would like an interior that holds up well with age. I am curious what your observations are if you have an older car with a red - or any other non-black interior.

- Do the non-black panels (lower dash, doors, etc.) fade? I live in south Florida and the vehicle will not be garaged
- Do scuffs or deep gashes reveal a different color underneath? I.e. for plastic pieces, is the color dyed into the whole plastic or just a surface layer?
- How do the Nuluxe seats hold up? Do they crack like leather with age and reveal sub-layer color that’s different?

Can't speak to mechanical durability but I can tell you I've seen red interiors on older cars where the plastic degraded badly to the point of crumbling. Worst colour for sun damage, whatever spectrum of light it absorbs it breaks down the materials. Even worse than dark blue. So for a car that sits outside I'd say not a good choice.

These were Toyota's, around 20 years old at the time. What year Lexus are you considering, new?

Can't predict how a particular interior will age except to say red will get sun damage faster than any other colour in my experience.
