I usually stick to the LS460 forum so forgive me if the following is common knowledge here. I discovered that the hardness rating of ceramic coatings is based on graphite hardness scale. Basically, lead pencil hardness. A standard pencil is a 2, so a ceramic coating with a 9H rating is similar to a #9 pencil. I wrongly thought the 9H was similar to diamond or metal hardness ratings. I still love my ceramic coating for ease of keeping my car clean, but have now thrown out my Cali Duster (works great in dry, dusty climates) because it could scratch the ceramic coating.

Too bad ceramic coatings are not on the Mohs scale that would make your paint impervious.

That's one reason I still use synthetic wax....takes 40 min after a wash to reinforce it. Ceramic takes too long and is harder to do since you can't just put it on everything indiscriminately and remove it on the finishing pass. The ultimate is still a protective film IMO
