I am now the owner of a 2004 LS430 Sport. It was my dad's car (original owner!), and the dealership offered him an 'insulting' amount. Since I have a kid on the way, he suggested I take it as it's far safer and more reliable than my Series II Discovery (turd).
I have all service records and paperwork. It's in decent shape considering it has 158k miles, but it isn't perfect. Services/repairs needed include:
Timing service (last done at 98k miles in 2014)
Driver mirror won't tilt
Passenger mirror won't fold
Front shocks or bushings bad, leaning towards shocks as they've never been done
Center stack+shift panel illumination, driver seat heating+cooling intermittent (I believe it's junction box after research)
Subwoofer foam damaged (ordered kit to repair)
Headlights seem a little low, will try to adjust and hope that's all is needed. They deserve a polish as well.
Chrome trim on front bumper is no longer chrome
Display 2 button steering wheel doesn't seem to do anything. Maybe related to junction box?
Other than that, it runs beautifully, as any LS should. I would really like to get the GROM Android Auto box, but since I am inbetween jobs it is on the back burner. Here are some pictures:
Removal was easy enough and the cause of the issue was obvious:
Cheap and easy, but good lord this was a messy task. Also discovered a small tear in the cone, maybe my fault? Either way had to repair it as I was unwilling to spend $200 on a used part from eBay.
Job done, given time to cure. Installation is the reverse of removal, and the factory ML system is back up to task.
Unfortunately local FM sucks from a clarity standpoint, so I will be off to the thrift stores and garage sales for CDs.
