Detuned, so what's your point??? I never said my car would be the fastest in Orlando, nor has that ever been my goal.

Plus, my car will be a 500 HP Lexus... Rare indeed. The 240 SX is still JUST a 240 SX, not even in the same league as my Lexus... And weight, so what...I am not tracking the car, this is a luxury cruiser. And, if I wanted to be one of the fastest cars in Orlando, that is possible too...build up the internals, more boost baby...

Am I misreading you, or are you hating on my thread???

David:

If you had read one of my previous posts in this thread, you would have seen that I said just that...To save money, one can buy used and rebuilt parts. But you know me...I bought new in almost all cases...because this is my car.

EMU- Engine management Unit, a generic term for controlling fuel and timing, regardles if FMU, Piggy Back ECU, Full Replacement ECU, etc.

Koyo Radiator-$400 - Not Neccessary
Flex-A-Lite dual fans-$250- If done right, oem fan stays
Tial BOV-$275- ebay.. used....
Custom headers-$1000 - JY headers with Tundra Headers (Was 99, but now 225)
EMU-$650 - FMU $275
FPR-$200- Not Neccessary
SS Exhausts-$1,200 -Not Neccessary
Flanges,hoses, fittings-$500 - Ebay.... $100-150
Steel tubing-$400 -$200
Plus Labor - Free.. do it yourself...
Of course there will be many other misc parts.... but prepare to spend some money on the engine after few months of boosting......

Gang, I always invite differing opinions, it's healthy and interesting. Why is it that in every thread where someone is working dilligently working on making a significant difference and contribution to this community, that there has to come up an A$$HOLE or few that have to hate on the person's efforts??? Seems like some guys always gotta be jealous about someone else's hard work.

And no, Lextreme, I am not referring to you...

Would it be more economical to buy the supercharger kit from the Aussie's? Besides being able to change boost setting and the fact that superchargers are ugly, what advantage does the turbo set up have over Rush Import's supercharger?

BTW, let me know if this if too OT. I don't want to start a turbo vs. super charger debate in your thread.

I could be completely wrong, but from what I understood the gains with the supercharger were nowhere near the gains of the turbo.

Ryan - still reading every post on this thread. Considering doing this if you are happy with the outcome and it is cost effective.

Peace,
jonny

Jonny:

Remember, you do not have to use Garrett GT2871R Turbos...They are Twin Ball Bearing turbos, and quite expensive. T3/T4 hybrids should do the job quite well, and for a lot less money...

Bell is a premium Intercooler, you can spend less and still get a great FMIC. And, If your radiator is working well, you do not have to change that either. SO, you can definitely put one together for less money that will still be an awesome performer, and more budget conscious...

At this point, I prefer turbo to supercharger...almost impossible to intercool the supercharger and keep the bonnet stock. So, boost will be limited, and so will be HP...IMO

If I sold you all the parts at what I paid for them, without labor, $5,000 would not cover it. And I would not do that...make a kit for others, spend all my time, and make no money. I love you guys, but my time is worth alot to me...LOL

Think about it:
Garrett GT2871R- $1,200 each, $2,400 for my TT application
Custom Bell FMIC-$800
Koyo Radiator-$400
Flex-A-Lite dual fans-$250
Tial BOV-$275
Custom headers-$1000
EMU-$650
FPR-$200
SS Exhausts-$1,200
Flanges,hoses, fittings-$500
Steel tubing-$400
Plus Labor

Lots of beans...Not for the faint at heart or low in cash...

Ryan
I come up with my own list to make it under $5000
twin CT20 turbo - used $500 or less
Skyline GT-R FMIC-USED $300
Stock Radiator- $0
E-bay BOV-$100
Custom headers-$1000 (I like nice looking header so spend as much on header)
EMU- I will upgrade this to HKS F-con V ,Motec, or AEM EMS(if they make one for 1uz) for about $1300. I think it will make big different.
HKS Exhausts-$600
Flanges,hoses, fittings-$500
Steel tubing-$400
Just another opinion, though. At first I'm thinking about twin turbo V8 too but after carefully study my engine bay and see thae it was lack of space so I call it off and went 2JZ route.

Having to rebuild both of the Tundra headers now...Since I am keeping the AC in, the AC compressor is in the way of the header. So a bit more time is required to get the plumbing done.
