give you guys some running time updates...

I spent a good portion of the day yesterday finishing sanding and double checking everything - I primed it again in a few spots and let it cure overnight...

this morning I woke up at 5 am, cleaned the garage floor, cleaned the car, and layed down two thin layers of sealer... 25 minutes later, I layed down the base coat...

right now I am waiting a little longer than the minimum - I have two small drips I want to fix before the clear coat...

8 hours yesterday, 4 hours today so far, running total time: 45 hours

Can your neighbors smell what you are doing ?
yup, thats where one of the runs is, so I am going to fix the run, then paint that after the run is gone..

I can't either

one neighbor yesterday came by and gave me some **** about "better not get any over spray on my stuff" he just likes to be a **** though... there's virtually no overspray with hvlp, I didn't even mask the nice white garage doors and they are still nice and white with not even a speck of paint on them...

it serves two purposes...

1) keeps anything below it from bleeding up to the paint

2) provides a chemical attachment for the paint instead of mechanical (paint sticks better)

if I were in this to make money, I'd tell you that it's not painting a car that is hard or time consuming... it's all the prep work to get to the painting part...

if you look at my time line, I've spent 45 hours on the car, and realistically if you brought a car to me or anyone just to respray, even including just sanding, we're talking 5-6 hours worth of work... that means I've spent 40 hours in sanding, filling, blocking, removing parts, etc... and I still have to put the car back together...

update: I just fixed my runs, resprayed a thin part on the driver door, and am waiting to do the clear right now... there is a drip on the trunk lid, but I'm going to leave it as is - it's almost unnoticeable, and I don't feel like waiting 24 hours to sand it out and respray that part... so, we should have some completed pictures within an hour or two...

edit: I am paid roughly $24 / hour to work at my job, I much prefer working to painting, so if I were to do something like this, I would want to be paid more than I am to go to work... Body shops charge around $80-$120 / hour, so I can see where they come up with my estimates of $3000-$4000 for painting a car...

thats exactly what I was going for... I loved the color of it before, I just wanted to update it a little...

years ago, I changed the color of a car, and vowed to never do it again... we did it right, jambs and everything, and I just hated it - I'd see little pieces that were the old color, and it just made me sick...

this color is amazing - it's dark red under certain light, and its super bright under other light... the metallic/mica just looks awesome too...
