My ´97 SC400

Hy!
in last time, i had many done on my SC
First idea was, to install 3000k bulbs in the fogs, but looks not good, and i installed the original bulbs back.
original bulb
Next step was to change the LSD from the Supra in the SC Diff housing.
open Supra diff and measure
for the first measuring i used chalk, but not the best

i bought a paste for this, but the result was but ok... i had done this so see it.
the bearing cups removed
here is the lsd
pinion
ring gear remove, not easy with the glued screws.
with a screwdriver and a hammer, i removed the ring gear
all parts seperated to go sleep

Next step was to fit out the SC diff. This was easy to do But the oil was the original oil! many deposits on the magnetic screw, bad! The oil was more as dead.
look from the side
open diff
measuring with the paste... the original SC diff
LSD Supra TT vs SC400 OEM
Pinion SC
all parts cleaned to assemble
hot ring gear
and installed all screws glued und tightened with 63Nm
back in the SC housing
measure test, looks neraly the same as from the orginal diff
i think its ok.
All parts mounted and ready to fill up with oil. I used Liqui Moly 75W140 GL5

Today was the day
i filled in the oil, built the diff with a friend in my SC and go on road
wow..the SC is much more stable, but the LSD is hard to the tires every corner, little bit more pull down the pedal and the tires loose rubber
the rear of the car is much better, not nervous, i like this
first small test on road after more kilometers
perfect
With the installed springs and shocks looks the SC more original
But one point is not really ok for me. If i drive 60 miles (~100km/h) and i pull hard down the gas pedal, i feel a *klong* as was a little bit air between the parts from the drivetrain. Is this normal with the LSD? if i pull slowly down the gas pedal, is very very little or nothing. Or have my pinion to the ring gear too much clearance? Or is this the converter and the transmission with the LSD? it not 100% perfect for me, its too hard, i think. Or was the winter-brake too long?
Have somewhere the same with the supra LSD? or not?
*edit* i was under the SC and tested the Diff, its a clearance by the cardan...i think, this is not good
thanks
Tom

When you spin the pinion to make a pattern in the marker compound, I find you can make a better pattern if you "load" the carrier. I usually wrap a rag around an axle flange and hold it as tight as I can. If it is hard to turn the pinion, you will get more force between the gears and a nicer pattern that is easier to read.

@stockhatch... no, i don´t use a dial indicator to check this. sorry. But i think, its too much backlash, it feels like a dual mass flywheel with broken springs, not good.
@doomlight... the diff makes no howling, on the street its normal to drive, so bad sounds or somethings, only this *klong*
I used the supra struts, but i lowered the front spring disc 18m lower on the strut (new groove for the ring) The rear strut is ok, but with the new Supra TT springs maybe a little bit too high. But its drive very good.
i will check tomorrow which solutions i can do, maybe bring to a shop to adjust correct, but i think, the needs new spacers for this, not cheap. A friend pays 400 euros! only for install a kaaz diff in his IS200 housing and adjusting, and all was ok, no parts needed.
Or i rebuilt the supra diff and change only the flanges and test the longer ratio.
I'll let you know it.
greets
Tom

Tom, good luck getting the diff set up. It is not that bad to do if you have the tools and patience. Sometimes the hardest thing to do is get a good enough marking to read the pattern. Otherwise, it is just a lot of trial and error to get everything perfect. If you had some shims and a dial indicator, I am sure you could do it yourself with some time.

HY!
Thanks
But i will install tomorrow the LSD back in the Supra housing and changing the flange only. I can have in the next weeks a used SC300 diff (4.08) maybe i do a change in this housing to have shorter gears as original. But then, i give this to a shop i have not the tools for this, its better in professional hands.
Today i removed the diff from the SC, tested the cardan shaft, all ok, but the diff makes the noise.
without oil much more, i taken a video of the *klong*
