Dude this is going to be soo sick. So I have kind of a newb question. I just got a lexus sc300. It is a factory 5 speed. but it needs a new clutch and the motor has like close to 200xxx miles. I actually started thinking about doing a v8 swap like two days ago and then found this thread. I dont have a whole lot of swap experience so I dont want to get too crazy, but Im thinking about going with a carbed motor like a 350 out of an 80's f-body. Im thinking it would be way less inolved than this. I dont really care about keeping all the factory luxury stuff. as long as my windows and sunroof work im good. By going with a carbed motor wouldnt it be basically plug and play? From what I understand a carbed motor is pretty much self sustained. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Feel free to pm with advice or tips.

^^^^^^^^Don't do a carb'd 80s era 350. They make less power than your stock engine. If you are going to swap it, do it right and get a late model LS series engine.

they might make less power in stock form but with less money it seems you can get more power. and trust me im normally on your side. ive always been import over domestic but this car wont be my daily, and i want something that is like wtf? it just seems more economical in my opinion for an inexpensive weekend toy with decent power to go old v8. i havent seen really any 2js that impressed me that didnt have stupid money in them.

Idk what engines you are looking a but dollar/hp it's very hard to beat the ls series of motor. Ad old, carbed, iron block is not going to be a good choice, the car is heavy enough as it is. But hey if that's what you want to do...

yeah a heavy iron block motor is going to perform like a pendulum swinging.

have u seen the performance of the 2007 Shelby GT500? can't handle for crap! too heavy with the iron block.

get a LS series Chevy motor if u have to quell ur thirst for american v8 power. then u can slap a carb on top. im sure edelbrock makes a manifold for it.

A carbed ls1 is a good option and with stock motor and carbed intake you can make some very good power. And all for fairly cheap

So I am curious, How well did you manage to get it intergrated to the Lexus? I.E. does all the stock dash cluster gauges operate?
Did you dump the stock ECU and if so what else doesnt function or did you work around it all and make it work?
