eyeSoarers 1.5JZ/GE Build thread
I havent posted a build thread on here for awhile so heres a small update. The build is almost complete, just need to diagnose a few issues. I was laid off last Aug, was bored and had some time on my hands. So I said what the heck, I wanted to BOOST.
I aquired a 1JZ from a buddy of mine a few months back. He told me if I could haul it away, it was all mine. It had a cracked block and missing a few parts-ECU, some sensors and needed maintance.
I was gathering a few parts together, checking online in the classifieds looking for deals. Kind of went out of hand, spent more than I wanted to after ordering and gathering all the parts.
Started to tear down the 1JZ for cleaning and inspecting if all was good.
Head checked out good after the machine shop running some tests. I was going to get it cleaned, hot tanked but the funds were running low.
Picked up Vinhs old longblock, he hooked it up but it was durty-dirty as hell. You name it, it had leaks on every seal and gasket. Glad you didnt dump it in the bottom of the ocean.
Took me a couple days to disassemble and cleaned the block.
Head assembly. I didnt have the tools to torque down the ARP headstuds so I had to make a trip out to my nephews.
Did a few rattle can ugrades. Sprayed the intake manifold and charge pipes with automotive black, should of went with silver. That black is too glossy for my taste.
I had the engine assymbled and was ready to be dropped in.
Pulled the motor out after coming back from Vegas with my cousin. Some Vegas shots(excuse the iphone pics), my cousin had never been so it was cool hangin out with him. Vegas is always fun, no matter how effed up you get out there. Always something new. I didnt see most of these hotels and attractions last time I was out there, its been that long.
It was pretty simple pulling the motor out.
I shoulda cleaned the engine bay while the motor was out, I was too anxious to get the GTE in.
Mounting the W58 on the GTE. I didnt get a new clutch, the one I had wasnt that old and again, funds were low.

Getting the 1JZ in was another story, I was fighting with it for nearly 2 hours.
Then my cousin suggested to loosen the motor mounts.
That did the trick, it now sits in its new home.
The car starts now after swapping out ECUs. I had a no start problem, was diagnosing it for 2 weeks then I thought I would try another ECU. Posted a WTB: soarer ecu thread, someone replied and said they had one for $150. I waited for the new ecu to arrived, was stoked cause I thought I was getting a auto but it turned out to be a M/T.
Plugged it in and the car fired right up on its first turn. But it stalled after a min and was leaking from the front seal again. This is the 3rd time im replacing the front main seal. I have a buddy coming over Sunday to do it so I'll make sure there isnt a forth time.
This was my first time doing a build like this. I read most of the build threads on here at least twice and got motivated. I initially was going to order a motorset and was going to drop it in but was fortunate that my buddy needed space and had to let go of his 1JZ. This was a learning experince, got stuck a few times but I stuck it out and with the help of the world wide web, It got me through it.
Hopefully things go right and it should be running early next week, if it doesnt rain.

Not that much work at all. I had to look up torque specs and tightening procedures but had my nephew do it cause I didnt have the tools to bolt the headstuds down.
Only thing with the GE block was it didnt have the oil squirters for the turbos so I used a oil sandwhich plate which was suggested by forum members.

i thought u had to drill the 1jz head a lil bigger cuz the hardware for the 2jz head is a few mm bigger?
