kt636 slow build thread
Been collecting parts within the past year since I picked up my sc300. I hardly drive my sc since I have a daily driver. I'm getting ready to move for school and I'm planning to take the sc3 with me. Since I have some free time to work on the car so here it goes.
Here is the list of things that I want to get done this month:
- r154 MC bearing retainer and thrust washer upgrade
- 5-speed conversion
- fabricate my ffim
- 2jzgte head gasket, timing belt, water pump and all the seals (rear main, crank, cam etc..)
Na-t is where I'm headed so we'll see how much time I have to squeeze that in there.
Beware that I'm going to update stuff that I'm doing and its going to jump around a lot since I'm waiting for parts to come in.
Here are some pic of the car as it sits right now.

I picked up an r154 off of a 1jz chaser a while back and its been sitting in my garage collecting dust. I tore it open and been working on it slowly to change out the thrust washer and the bearing retainer to marlin crawler. I officially finished it a few days ago and its sitting on my counter waiting for the swap to begin. I took tons of pic when I tore it apart and I know how you guys love pictures so here they are
I wasn't sure on the condition of the tranny so I pulled it apart to see if I need a rebuild or not. I got lucky and the tranny seem to be in a very good condition.
All my synchros are like this
All the little parts that I took out (one of the round ball wasn't in the picture)

Marlin Crawler retainer and thrust washer arrived...
Here's a comparison between the two parts. The MC is way beefier
My thrust washer was in perfect condition so I believe that this transmission hasn't been abused.
Here's another shot of what a good synchro looks like
MC thrust washer in
Retainer in
About 2hr later and everything is back without any extra parts
New seal going in
My early model soarer shifter extension came in and the tranny is back together
I can shift through all the gears and I can spin the input shaft freely so we'll just have to wait and find out if I messed anything up.
I already got the 7mgte driveshaft, 1jzgte flywheel, clutch slave, clutch master, and a manual ECU. I'm waiting on the pedals assembly to come in and I will order the clutch sometimes next week as well as a clutch line, ARP flywheel bolts and pressure plate bolt. I think that should finish up my 5 speed conversion.

This is sitting around collecting dust as well so I decided to give it a lil polish job when I want to sit down. It should be done here within the next few days.
A few parts for my FFIM came in yesterday.
I got this IAC valve from a 90 Toyota Camry for $15 shipped to my house and it tested good
RMR D plenum with the Q45 TB adapter plate

thanks..i hope so too
yeah im on a college student budget and fixing this car aint cheap
I got it for 153 and some change shipped to my house. I'm looking at around $300 once I'm done with the manifold and that's having somebody weld the tb adapter and the end tanks together. If you can weld aluminum, this manifold can be made for less than 250 easily

Last time my engine bay will be looking like this
2 hours later and this is where I'm at. I'm doing the egr delete as well so all the emission lines and junk is going out.
Planning out what I'm going to do with the wiring. At first I was going to peel back and move all the wires that goes over the hump of the valve cover and move it back near the passenger firewall and run along the frame. That seems to involve too much work and it might not look as clean so I remove the plastic cover against the firewall and move the whole harness down to have some slack to go underneath the intake manifold.
Testing fitting the harness with the lower half of the manifold to see if the slack was good enough
Motivation to see how much better the engine will look after I'm done
Cutting up the log
Drilled two holes to hold the manifold to check for length and clearances
Final cut to shorten the front
The clearance for this manifold is a tight fit but I think I can work with it. There's about an inch of space between the booster and the manifold. The power steering needs to be move and the throttle cable needs to be longer. I'm heading to the junk yard tomorrow to look at some camry cable and also some option for a power steering reservoir.
