Update today...

Got my pickup truck fixed and got it home safely...I placed the cams in, and everyone was right, no biggie.. I was just afraid of not doing something completely right and killing the valves and head...I followed the directions exactly, I never thought you would have to turn the cam gears that many times.. Anyway here are some pictures along the way..

Already factory greased....

Siliconed per directions, thanks quick..

TDC...

TDC....

Tensioner on....

Alternator on and used the 400 connector, tied the 1JZ harness plugs out of the way..

Everything back together, rolled the motor over like 30 times to assure the cams worked flawlessly and the timing stayed dead on... It did! I bought some plastic screw caps for the pod holder, but I didn't have time to finish this. I will finish that next week.

I rechecked the clearances again after everything was placed on, stayed within specs. The PDF file stated Intake .006-.010, Exhaust .010- .014. By the BC paperwork, it stated Intake .006, and the exhaust .008.

My question is which one do I go by on the exhaust, that's 2 thousands off??

Here is a very good link from another website that also helped with the cam install...

Well thanks, I guess.. LOL

Just alot of time prepping, sanding, and spraying..

Patience is the key to the whole thing here. .

Several people were asking me about the Mines performance regulator and how they hold up. I stumbled across this video of the owner and the shop in Japan, with the special guest, Paul Walker. I was impressed with the two Nissan GTR's and the outlook of the small part I actual saw part of the shop. Enjoy the kinda lengthy video..

Use the BC specs for clearances, not the factory specs. Also, it does not look like you used much if any lube on the cams. Did you install them dry? I would have used some good assembly lube, or at the very least a generous coating of oil. A bone dry startup is not the best way to start your cams' lives.

The BC cams came precoated with oil. I also lubed all lobes and such with new oil that i will be using. I even did the cam bolts and plates that hold the cam down. The pictures might be a little deceiving, but they are coated. I will even coat them again before i place the new gaskets on the valve covers. Thanks for answering my question. I think i am still good on the proper clearances with the stock shims as everyone stated.

Ok good deal. It was hard to see the lube from the pics That's awesome that all the clearances fell within spec. I am surprised! Sounds like you have all the bases covered

im sure you know as well as anyone else. prime the hell out of that motor before you start it.

i was a bit shocked at the cams barely adding 1mm of lift. i hope its worth the money. i never been in a 1jz powered car other than my lexus. so i dont know what they are capable of as far as seat of the pants acceleration is concered.

if i can get it faster than my 425hp MR2. then i will be impressed )

and it looks like you are well on your way.

As far as the power goals by adding cams, should be close to 50 extra horsepower, with the help of the AEM standalone V2, as everyone who has them. I say it is one of the best mod for the bucks. I am hoping to see around 500 rwhp on 93 octane, but 550+ on high boost would be awesome!

I cant thank everyone enough on how this build has been going. I appreciate the heck out of the comments, ideas, concerns, and the compliments! I couldnt have done without the help of many CL members and their suggestions. I was really skeptical about adding cams due to the availiability and cost factor, but we will see what kind of throttle response we have. Prolly spinning in third gear at 80mph, with the stock rear end.
