Latest Mod = #PlastiDipGrillBandwagon

Had some free time today..inspired by my big bro Tee, I decided to take the plunge and PlastiDip my front grill. I was very happy with the way it turned out. I took my grill out to do this mod...I am an expert at doing this with all the nike light swap out practice I've had lol...it makes this mod VERY EASY by removing the grill..so I highly recommend you all do this.

Process:

I cleaned the grill up really good with cleaner, getting every speck of dirt removed on the slats, carefully taped and tucked the tape very tight in all the creases to make sure tape removal would not grab on the plastidip.

I then sprayed about 10 coats about 10 mins apart..held can about 10 inches away with very smooth strokes left to right..right to left..had a beer, chat with neighbor, paint some more..x10...babysitting because I onlly went through two beers and a small bowl of chex mix lol. I still have about a 1/4 can of plastidip left

Parts needed:

1. One can of PlastiDip (spray paint section of Home Depot $5.75 per can
2. 3M blue painters tape or whatever your preference
3. Patience while taping
4. Two beers
5. A neighbor to talk ish with
6. Bowl of Chex Mix

Here are some pics of this adventure leading up to final results.

Looks good. But question.. Plastidip comes off right? Peels off? What if u run it through a car wash. Would the high pressure water make it peel off? And did u not have to clear coat? Does it have a smooth or rough texture?

Yes, yes
No
No
Smooth if you paint it right.

That was my concern too..then I saw a youtube video of a guy who put a 1200 PSI pressure washer on it and the PlastiDip wasn't even phased in the least...the surface is a real thick, hard rubber sort of texture..its hard to explain..almost like the back of a ruggedized smart phone case...it is pretty much smooth if you paint it right..mine turned out perfect with no issues at all...

glad i could contribute to the now growing trend! But to be honest it's better to not mask off if you took the grill off. it actually takes longer to mask than to just peal it off. trust me. i rough masked because i kept it on the car.

Sorry..but imma have to disagree..took me about 10 mins to mask...2 min to remove grill and I wanted smooth lines and no over spray getting everywhere...to each is own I suppose. It may not be paint exactly but I wanted to really to make this look perfect. Thanks for the inspiration though!
