Gauge Cluster Conversion
To make it easier to know which wire from the 97 goes to which wire on the 92, let us start making a table so it is easier for others who can't read wiring diagrams to follow.
Since I am not taking out the old 92 plugs , I will just solder the wires from the new cluster to the corresponding wire on the old cluster so I can use either gauge clusters. Though you will do less soldering and repinning if you just replace the old 92 plugs with the 97 plugs .
First lets take a picture of each plug we will use so it will be easier to follow . As I have shown and said on the "2jzgte Wiring Harness Made Easy" thread, numbering of pins usually start on the left of the plug with the plug lock on top. I have also shown on that thread how to pry a pin out so check it out if you don't know how to . I don't feel like repeating that info here. I did cut the cluster wiring , 12" from the pigtails
Today .. took out the dashboard of the 1992 SC300 so I can take out the dash harness and start the grafting
1992 SC300 dash harness has some minor differences from that of the 1994 SC400 dash harness so I will use mine from the 1992 SC300 to graft the 1997 pigtails.

This is where I am grafting the 97 pigtails. In that area inside the dashboard, there is enough room at the back to hold the bulge caused by the grafting. Remember, I am not taking out the 1992 plugs. I want to be able to use either of the two clusters..... pre 97 or 97 gauge cluster. It is a lot easier to cut and remove the pre 97 plugs and just replace. But the beauty of just grafting the 97 plugs is you can use either of the two.

The 92 trip switch do not have a wire on slot 5 so it has to be added and connected to D19

Thanks guys... I have a lot of people PMed me saying they got their 2jzgte swap wiring harness done using that guide you used Ryan.. Some had a couple of problems here and there but after explaining things to them.. got things working.
I have verified every pins / wires on the Gauge Cluster Conversion table on post #2717 . Except for one or two pins... every wire from the 97 has been matched on the 92 so I don't see any reason why a 97 would not work on a 92.
Honestly , I have yet to do the actual cutting and grafting of wires and testing on my 92 but as mentioned , the table above clearly shows me everything will work due to the matchup.
I maybe wrong but after all the diagram analysis... I have no reason to doubt it will work . BTW, Ryan , for the temp , not sure. I guess we will find out..
Now I need to remove my Red Mamba Two (1992 SC300) dashboard to take out the cluster harness and graft the 97 pig tails. What I currently have whose picture I took was from a 1994 SC400. Surely very similar but I would like to verify .

Well guys... check Phoenix AZ and San Rafael CA.. there are two 1997 SC300 5 speed for $6400 .. both from dealerships. I hope forum members get to own them. They seem to be very clean cars.
Also if anyone here in GA , wants a black 1996 SC300 auto tranny shell let me know cause a friend told me he is selling his shell for $1000...no drivetrain and interior is not in great shape. He is scrapping his SC project and instead was installing his 2jzgte swap into a 240sx.

i'm getting a hugeeeee itch to mod the SC... and throw in a stock 1jz..
i def can't go 2jz due to the costs involved, and what i'd like to do it.
either way, i'll be running it stock for a while. im swaying towards the 1j due to the costs of being able to do it so much cheaper....

What ever JZ swap you choose should depend on your final goal for the car. What will its use be so you get to decide your power goal and ultimately the setup you need to work on. I know 1JZ is cheaper but at the end of the day, you will be throwing money away if you buy something now just to change things down the line, you might as well wait and save for the right setup .

i'm maybe at 110-120 miles, at a half tank.
