time to take it apart!
good ole stock 1jz cams.
i already took the radiator out in this pic. so i could remove the crank pulley and other things in front of the timing covers.
breaking that crankshaft bolt was a mother! i put the car in 5th gear, pulled the e-brake, had my pops lay on the brakes, and had a pipe on the breaker bar just to break the 22mm crank bolt loose! whew!
and there you have it. fully removed everything. the timing belt was the original one, along with the cam seals and crank seal. decided to replace it all.

next I decided to be cliche and just paint the valve covers. i have thought about it and polishing them would take too long and I need this car ready to tune asap!
so I bought 500 degree red engine enamel.
almost emptied the can with like 8 coats.

anyway. finally took out the stock cams. boy these suckers hold alot of oil. I made a big mess on the driveway. when all the oil leaked out the oil feed holes in the cams.
here is a pic of them off the head.
and here is a pic of them just sitting there before I torqued down the bolts. I used Permatex engine assembly lube so these cams wouldn't get any score marks during oil prime.
cams bolted down and set at TDC.
next cam seals were installed. since 1jz's were sold here. I looked on clublexus about which parts i could substitute to get this back together with new seals. I used V6 Camry Seals from a 1996 1MZ-FE. they protrude out a little more than the stockers. but they do the job. a standard 2jz crankseal worked for the bottom. it was really clean already, no leaks inside the timing area. but since i was there. i decided to replace all worn seals.

i bought brand new 5mm Hex Head M6x1.0x25mm bolts to replace the screws. cleaner look yanno?
just finishing up the engine. new oil and filter, antifreeze. yanno basic stuff.
ready to fire her up and see if She sounds different with these cams.
here is a Video. it really doesn't sound different from stock. i know the differences between stock and these stage 2 cams wasn't very much. but hey. who doesn't like a 35 second video.

Really nice man. Good thing about those 264's, they sound stock but a good power increase. I have a soft spot for nice low lopey idles so I wouldve saved and picked some 272's or 280's up lmao.

thanks. Stock valve covers. Stock spark plug cover too. I used 5mm hex head bolts to replace the screws to bolt down the covers and I used the chrome 5mm valve cover and timing cover bolts for the spark plug cover. It came out decent.
