waiting on a new coupler. moving cold pipe slightly off to the right. the radiator fan blows the heat right on the cold pipe... makes it freakin hot.

then im gonna schedule a retune. and hope i can make my goal.

so after some thinking. time to jump on the S366 bandwagon. cheap turbo that gives results. so...

got one.

I got the CXRacing thickwall 1jz manifold

and a 46mm Precision Wastegate.

and here is the manifold. I brought it to my girlfriends dads shop. he does metal work. so I had him already chopping off the 4 bolt 50mm gate flange.

cleaned up the flange with a grinder, then some mineral spirits and next welding the flange time.

as you can see here. this stainless steel manifold is thick walled! i believe it wont be like the typical thin type that crack after you put some heat on it.

next some welding was done.

he welded the inside as well. so no contamination issues would arise. viola. done.

what a pain. i really dont think V-banding is that much easier than traditional bolts. but after wrestling with the clamps i finally got the wastegate on. i hate to make sure i got it in the right spot incase i have to unbolt it in the car. ugh!

here I was testing fitting it for the first time. i had to widen the flange holes a little with a large drill bit. no big deal.

tightening the bolts was a bizniptch! i only could use the open end of the wrench and had to get at it with weird angles. thank god my arms arent too big.

next I installed the back housing. the only way to get this turbo on is to put it on in sections.

Name: 20131102_172832_zpsb912ca76.jpg

next the center section.

Name: 20131102_173719_zpsbf77859c.jpg
Views: 248
Size: 63.8 KB

then I attached the lines. again no front section. its impossible to tighten it all with it together.

then the top feed line was done.

then i installed wastegate vacuum lines.

Name: 20131102_175134_zpsa305cd0e.jpg

I slipped on the front cover and checked clearance.

next i had to drill a hole in the front cover for nipple. thats needed to provide vacuum for the boost controller/wastegate.

finally i wrapped the elbow coupler with some heat wrap just to protect it.

I am sure some of you noticed I looped the upper water neck to the lower one. this is because I plan on going on to a ball bearing turbo sometime in 6 months. so i just looped them.

here is a video of the turbo in action. its open downpipe. I need to get it down to the exhaust shop for that on Monday. I do plan on having the wastegate recirculated. I dont want the noise. anyway. stay tuned. not sure when im going to get a retune. but thats all for now.

Air Filter installed.

Nice! Those manifolds look so awesome. I was going to get one, but I emailed them and they said there is no way it would clear on a rhd I got the el cheapo cxracing manifold instead, knowing I will have to hack on it quite a bit. Good luck reaching your goal. I just ordered an s300 60mm myself

That Turbo will not last the way you ran that return line.., get a 45* fitting that 90* fitting will not work the oil will get backed up in there and blow the seals out in no time.

Weld an Elbow on the turbo .

alright. after i get it back from the fabricator. i'll get the 45 degree 10an fitting. I did it that way just to get it to the shop. but i'll have it ordered.

the reason i didnt have the weld the elbow was.

1. already had this brand new 90 degree 3 inch to 2.5 inch coupler.
2. cost of getting an elbow and cutting the turbo up to weld it on.
3. resell. i wanna sell this turbo. if i modify it too much, i can't sell it to just anyone. its just a bandaid till i can save up to get something more durable like a Ball Bearing. (just a personal preferance, i just like them)

Ok I see.

Durable turbo is bw, thats whats on those 18 wheelers, dump truck see more boost than we will ever think aboit running.
Don't let that bb crap get to your head.. I don't believe in it.

I had that same turbo on one of my cars for over 20k miles and not even a shaft play.

The reason I don't like bb is the cost of the rebuilt in case it blows up, it's a price of a new turbo.

That turbo has been proven to take a beating and still perform like new
After thousands of thousands of miles.

I'm just telling you from experience.

For example the dm claims their turbos have Garrett internals...the center section from Garrett is about $1700 so you do the math..

I'm glad you finally decided to make the switch and you won't be disappointed.

My friend always make fun of s366 , he says it's very laggy spools like gt42.., I made the switch and to be honest that s366 outspools the 4202 buy at least 7-800 rpm depending on the gear am IN.

On that 4204 (74mm) I see 19-21 psi around 4150 rpm which is not bad and doesn't bother me.

awesome. i can't wait to get it back from the fabricator. i have no doubt now that i will make the goal of 500hp on pump gas with this turbo.

i'll have to run 15 psi tho. my tune is for 25psi and i wanna drive it. i'll just watch the AFR's to make sure i dont do anything bad.

cant go wrong with an s366. they make great power and are low price turbos. PLUS THEY SOUND AMAZING! guarantee once you drive your car you wont want to sell the turbo for a bb turbo. it may be a little laggy but it will pull all the way to redline
