Well our 3.4 4 runner finally died on us.... so weve been exploring the options! Come to either replacing the 3.4(boring) putting a 350 sbc w th350 tranny (lots more work than wanting to to do. Tossed around a 1u swap but i finally talked my husband into a 1j. Previously owned a mk3 supra 7mgte auto at one point did a 1j swap w/ 5 spd..... now my question is being as how it is a 96 runner 2wd it has the a340e tranny(correct if wrong)
and as far as i can tell the newer model 1j has a340e tranny from 99-02 but the older 1j has a a341e i believe. See where im going ? He is wanting to keep the tranny the runner just find a motor ....what should we do?


What is the easier way to do this?
Does anyone know of an adaptor if this wont work?

My husband is not really that familar with import vehicles but is extremely familiar with motor swaps and has been a fabricator for over 15 years! Just need some info on what direction to go. Please help thanks in advance

I'm not sure whether this will get moved to the "General" section, seeing as it's not really to do with SC's.

As for an answer, I'm gonna say that the only thing you'll need to bolt a 1J to the trans would be a JZ bellhousing.
Especially an A340E.

Keep looking on different forums and google for an answer.
