fuel door will not open
I have a 97 sc 300. fuel door will not open. solution: first check fuse. on my car it is no. 21 in the fuse box.this fuse works the power door lock and alarm system.if these systems are functioning , the fuse is ok.my problem was in the fuel door solenoid. this unit is found inside your trunk where the fuel door is.once you pull the side mat open you can clearly see it.this is the device that locks the fuel door. what I did was unplug it first, you may need a mirror to see the underside of the plug.do not force it off! just take your time and slip it off.take some pliers and pull back the center rod there the string is attached. the door will open. once the door is open.get a 19 mill wrench and loosen the nut that holds the lock. take the unit out. get some electrical spray cleaner from radio shack and lubricate the center rod only.let it set for a few minutes to work in and push the center rod untill it is free.the problem is that the rod gets stuck over age. takes about 1 hour to repair. do this first before you pay $300 to $400 dollars for a solenoid from the dealer, even if you have to replace the unit you can find them on EBAY for $40 dollars. just make sure it is the Identical oem number.you can see the number when you take the unit out. I was shocked at how easy it was. mines is working perfect!
