JesLet, thinking on it further I do recommend getting a crate service for shipping a long block. I inspected a Merc OM606 diesel long block that a friend in Cali had just bought himself and that thing was going onto a palette (bolted down and strapped). A crate would have sufficed just as well. I believe Fedex was also used to ship that thing from FL to CA.

Transmissions can go in containers because they weigh a lot less.

Hell of a big engine, by the way, that 606. Finns love them the way we love 2JZ's.

Default AR5 Swap update

Changing rear seal

AR5 bearing retainer

R154 bearing retainer on AR5 transmission. Fits perfect!

AR5 input shaft lenght

R154 input shaft lenght

AR5 input shaft is a bit longer.. needs to be machined by this much:

I would mock the bellhousing up to the block and measure clearance in the pilot bearing pocket of the crank. It is possible that there is an extra 3/16" there that will allow you to run the AR5 input as-is. What I wonder is whether the AR5 splined area of the input is located properly to allow for full support and movement of the clutch disk.

It will probably be okay, but there is no way to know unless you mock it up and either measure, or visually check the disk placement on the input. Based on your pic, it looks like it should ride back far enough to have full spline contact. Just double check it during install to verify.

I'm not sure what interchanges, but is swapping the r154 input into the AR5 an option?

Seems like a lot of work, AR5 has triple synchros so it might be different.

That pantherqs/2JZ Solstice guy didn't mention he has to trim the input... so maybe it will fit as-is. I am about to measure it with the bellhousing right now

I measured it, calculating the belhousing length and input shaft lenght and it seems I still have 9.5mm clearance from the crankshaft pilot bearing hole.

Now, this input shaft does not move back and forth when shifting, right? If it moves i don't think it will go pass 9.5mm. Anyone can clarify this movement?

Depending on preload/clearance the input can possibly move fore/aft, but it wont go any farther forward than the retainer allows.

I measured it wrong..9.5 mm is R154 so I am left with 3.5 mm for the AR5.

So I guess i have to machine it to be safe.

Man, this little Dremel did the cutting for less than 5 minutes! I called the machine shop yesterday and they suggested to use die grinder and some good cutting wheels then I bought some. Ended up not using them.

Yeayyy!!!!!

Cleaning up

And done, like nothing happened

While im doing the cleaning up this guy came out of nowhere and asked me if i am a mechanic, I said no. I told him I just do it for the hobby and he gave me his business card and asked me if i'm interested working with him
