Tj's 95 SC300 1jz Swap
#212
After doing more research about the ACT 6 puck clutch i decided to return the clutch kit. I ended up going with South bend Stage 2 Endurance kti. Heard and read alot of good reviews on these clutches so i wanted to give it a try. They said this clutch would hold the tq that im looking to make and should feel pretty much stock. Since this is my daily i wanted something more streetable and the ACT wasnt the right choice. They also informed me that they could resurface my stock flywheel for $25 but im going to get it done locally.
Hopefully sometime this week i will be pulling the stock motor and prepping to drop the 1j in.

Yea i figured that would be the hardest part.. Hearing the turbo spooling but cant really get on it haha. Question for you. When i do the swap i plan on putting the new clutch in as well. But i will also be getting the car tuned right after. Now obviously you have to break the clutch in but how does that work when the car is on the dyno? would that effect the break in? Ive been researching and ive gotten mixed answers.

To be honest, I have read mixed reviews on even needing to break the clutch in. Some guys have installed the clutch and immediately went out doing pulls. Their response was just not to do burnouts. Although I do not recommend that, but some have and haven't reported back any issues.
I personally would not go right to the dyno, if you have a choice in the matter. Is there anyway that you can just run it on stock ecu until you break the clutch in? Or maybe just have the tuner dial in your vacuum and conservatively estimate the boost. Then drive it around for a few hundred miles and break it in properly and then go back. Even though I know that the dyno is not as high of a load as the road, but I still wouldn't like doing that to a brand new clutch
You're supposed to stay 2k or under for the first 150-200 miles, then can go up to 2500 for some, then 3k, etc. Ease into boost. I have about 600 miles on my SB clutch and did a first mini pull around 300 miles, which was probably too soon. Did a few pulls since then, and seems to be breaking in and holding up fine

i think ill see if i can get like a base map or something so i can just drive the car and break in the clutc. then after take it to the tuner to strap on dyno for a good tune. Like you said so many mixed reviews out there on clutch break in periods. Guess you couldnt wait either huh to feel boost haha.

For South Bend clutches , you need to break them in. IF it get damaged by putting it on the dyno right away where it will be pushed , you will be out of luck for your warranty. They will not warrant it. That is what happened with geauxsimon's SB clutch. The clutch had less than 100 miles before it was dynoed and clutch disintegrated at only 450rwhp , 380ft/lbs torque. It was rated around double that torque. The first question they asked was how many miles before the dyno ? .... then.. sorry your out of luck !

Im using the AEM Infinite
Thanks Gerry for that info.. yea i dont want to void my warranty so i will make sure i break the clutch in before hitting the dyno.

Yea i plan on cleaning up the engine bay some. get rid of all emission crap( thank you NJ for finally passing law that 95 and under dont have to do emissions haha) and possible paint engine bay. One of my good friends is helping me with the swap and all his cars came out awesome. this is one of the cars he did a while ago. car is putting out over 800hp.
