Alex Rodriguez UCF10 Build thread.
Decided to start a build thread since i have documented enough in my phone. i told myself i wasnt going to modify my new daily driver because my Rx7s are already taking up all my money and time. But i couldn't resist so here she goes.
I began searching for my own Ls400 since i been using my buddies Ls400 as a daily because i am in the middle of bodywork redoing my Rx7s exterior. So for 3 months i began searching ads and craigslist looking for the right LS to pick up. I knew i wanted the following.
1- 1st generation
2- dark exterior color any
3- low mileage
4-reasonable body damage and interior
On December 26th i stumbled upon a ad on craiglsist for a 92 Ls just smogged, low miles ,20 mins away $1300...........yeah i was on my way.
Upon arrival i noticed a few things off the back. Windshield was cracked, bumper was scratched, interior was crap, window didnt go down. I popped the hood and boom dead cold motor so i check everything out no leaks all fluids topped up. I crank her over and she fires up accelarate warms up and idles perfectly 750rpm. 5 mins test drive i was sold that i wanted it but needed it cheaper.
I drove a hard bargain on this lawyer whos son been using the car for college. My only ammunition was the winshield i knew it was $150 at my friends glass repair shop but he though it was $700 for it. So I gave him my solid and firm offer of $900. He looked at me and said deal.
1992 Ls400 169,000 miles 1 owner. Registration up to date and passes California smog. 1 hr later I was at my friends glass shop getting a new winshield put in and then the build begins.

That afternoon I went to autozone and picked up everything to do a fresh tune up. He gave me the receipts from the Timing belt and water pump that was just installed 5k miles ago so that made me even hapier.
Ngk plugs
oil
tranny flush
coolant
cleaned the MAF
new vaccum lines
new Intake coupler
about 4 cans of engine degreaser and another trip to the pressure washer i ended up with this
NOW THE MODDING BUG BEGINS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am a Work Wheel ***** on all my cars all i have is Work. I currently had a set of "stretch stance setup" that I was going to use on my track Rx7 for shows and decided to use them on the LS.
Fresh set of Nankang nobles for the street will do. Monster truck status!!!!

So first thing I want to do is build a dailydriver that i could feel comfatable taking everywhere and look good at the same time. I do all my work from Rotary engine rebuild/porting to welding/fabrication to autobody paint. I want to go as cheap as possible yet maintaining quality.....that doesnt go to well but I do WORK!
I started in the interior time to pull it all out I HATE TAN INTERIORS! My driver and passenger seats are ripped. A bunch of interior parts are broken as well.

One trip to the junkyard i got almost everything I needed to complete my Ls.
Inside-
Window regulator
window switch
center cup mechanism
misc switches
air vents
Rear window shade
speaker grills
engine-
misc covers and shrouds
radiator shroud
exterior
chrome badges
Now on to the process of turning my Tan to Black interior. If its vinyl or leather I always shoot SEM or duplicolor interior paints. I am minimizing the cost again. So spent around $60 in paint to included acetone and misc items i needed to start the "dye"

I hate the automatic shifter on these cars but no need to worry i converted the oem unit to work like the gated version but on pressure with Bubble shift ****. Basically you pull the shifter and pulls up on a spring i located under the main shaft and slides the gear selector. I relocated the overdrive and lock mechanism as well.
I used a Mr2 BOSS HUB and my pressure switch behind the metal contact surface to activate the horn
While i was at it found a set of coilovers and a steering wheel so i have my buddy in japan shipping them to me should arrive soon
Tanabe sustec z1
a week later i recieved these goodies

time to finish the interior
Keeping the cost down i tried to find another set of seats and had no luck, OEM replacement covers are too expensive. upholstery shops want $600-$800 for vinyl re upholstery so good ol google and i found a local company called IGEE Seats. Got the two front seats and the arm rest for $150 in black.
over i am pleased with the seats i took them apart inorder to install the covers but sooo much better than ripped seats or new leather. the arm rest was a breeze as well.

Now I know I cant fit the wheels i want to run RIGHT AWAY. I am not painting this car until the summer where i will actually weld wider fender arches than pull fenders so I came across a member that i give credit to KEVEE. He used zg style fender flares to fit his fitment. So I AM COPYING YOU BRO!
ONE MORE so you can see how much i have to hide LOL mexiflush

Now i liked the oem tails but since I am going with the all BLACK ON BLACK ON BLACK theme i went with the celsior style tails and clear fronts as well.
gave the grill a fresh coat of SEM trim paint
and took it for a spin
Last week I woke up and said I want some bump. I havent had a sound system in years. All my Rx7s are loud, roll caged and not California street legal so I began a rough draft of what i want yet maintaining the "low cost" factor.
3- 12" Hifonics hfx12d4 300 rms each paid $29 shipped for each one
1- Power Acoustik BAMF 2000- 1200 watt rms -$59
A quick trip to homedepot got some 5/8 mdf and began building the box.
I have made cheap subs hit hard and work great its all air space and how hard you push them. building the box to fit the LS trunk and air space was tricky but still managed to pull 1.25 cu for each sub as required sealed.
and wrapped the box I am no longer doing the leather box so i wrapped it in black carpet and i am picking up the same grey material so i can do the false wall
If you look closely inside the corner subs theres notches thats to clear the rear frame rails and it mounts on top as well. everything needed to push it as far back and have space to pull the oem tire without pulling the box out!
