Coils make a huge difference on our cars.......night and day difference.....it takes it from a comfy luxury coupe.....to a sports car

Exclamation Update 9/14 Years Later - This is awesome

I am glad to make this update thread. I have quite a list of updates for the car.

It's currently on Megan Racing Coils
Brand new front OEM lower control arms
New Sway Bar End Links
and a few other small things.

I have new clear sidemarkers, a new windshield, black dash, tint and a full wrap on the way.

Here's some pics of my car now with 184,000 miles. Bought it with 94,000

Taken at 184,000 miles

Awesome car! I'll be sure to update on what's coming next shortly.

I've officially wrapped the entire car Avery Dennison Dark Blue

I've added an LS400 BBK upgrade kit as well!

Next week I'm picking up a new transmission (sadly another automatic for now)

I'm then gonna put in some Braum seats and get back on the road!

It's been out of commission for almost a year now but it's crazy to come back and refresh a thread that I've been working on since like 2013 - never give up, just takes longer than expected!

Before I wrapped it -- totally stripped down.

Having owned this car since like 2013, it's a crazy moment to revisit this build thread & show progress updates.

Since buying this car, I've gotten engaged, purchased a home, bought another vehicle, bought a motorcycle, and moved halfway around the country.

This is hilarious to read my earlier posts but the build continues!

The car is now getting my adult money budget thrown at it, and it's starting with a manual swap. This weekend a friend and I removed the auto with plans to swap in a W58 to convert my 1992 SC400 to manual. I'll also be rebuilding the entire rear subframe along with a new LSD.

Pics below:

That's what I'm talking about!
Why did you go with the W58? If it's budget then I understand.
The hardest part was contouring my body to drill the pedal holes LOL

A great story about you and a great car. Good luck with your manual conversion. Looking forward to completion of this project and you can really enjoy your car even more.

This is awesome - what a great thing to see you still have it and are tearing into it yet again! Best of luck on the swap. A manual SC with a decent diff is simply a dream to drive.

Good progress and excellent work!! You'll be enjoying what will feel like a different car very soon between the manual transmission and LSD swaps!

Pay attention to the pilot bearing, do not install it too deep. i had problems with vibrations (you can see all this in my thread, input shaft not in the bearing). please to rebalance your flywheel. all flywheels the i bought are not correct balanced (first from bold performance, now the 11lbs from xatracing/suprastore, both are bad).

i used a 12x32x14 bearing (wider as the standard) and a 11mm spacer in the back for the correct position on the input shaft.

if you have any question, feel free to ask me

Update - 8/4/2024

Over the last few weeks I've completed the following:
  • W58 Swap (using Quantum Auto Kit)
  • Installed new Clutch, Flywheel, Transmission, Cube Short Shift Kit, & Mounts.
  • Bled the brakes
  • Changed Differential, Transmission, and Engine Oil.
  • Installed Driveshaft & New Transmission Mount
  • New Spark Plugs, Wires, Distributor Cap/Rotor
  • Installed Clutch Pedal
  • Relocated drive-side wiring harness
  • Ran subwoofer wire in the same loom.

The swap it ALMOST driveable, I need a new fitting for my clutch master cylinder (got the kit grom Grannas Racing) with the billet adapter.
