Cleaning the engine bay
The naked chassie was brought in to the garage. Cleaned up the engine bay. with the high pressure cleaner
As you see here someone had painted the engine bay without any prior cleaning. Looked awful. My plan was to repaint the entire engine bay after the new LHD firewall was in place.

: Replacing the firewall
When I wrecked the SC I had saved the “Floor plates” as well, but decided not to use them. The size and shape was exactly the same on the supra and sc. There are some differences between the LHD and RHD versions as you see in the pictures, but it was easier to modify the excisting plates rather than replacing them with the ones from the SC
If you look at the green plate from the SC, you see some things that are missing or differs on the RHD supra: 1) a hole for the “water outlet” from the ac unit, up to the left, close to the firewall , 2) holes for attaching the heater/ac unit 3) bolt holes for the bracket holding the main ecu (not that important)
4) support for gas pedal had to be removed 5) bracket for the foot rest had to be removed
I`ll return to this later in the thread.
Some small differences on the future drivers side as well.: 1) no bolt holes for the gas pedal support
A lot of spot welds to drill out to get rid of the RHD firewall.
RHD firewall removed

Replacing the firewall
The green LHD firewall and the red RHD. I was relieved when I saw that the outer shape was exactly the same.
The donor car was an auto, so the holes for the clutch master cylinder had to be drilled out. It was already marked out from the factory
Close up of the SC/ LHD firewall. Right side.
An important step towards Left hand drive. The SC firewall in place. Perfect fitment.

Replacing the firewall
Welding the LHD firewall
The holes after drilling out the weld spots was allmost the same on the firewall and the body, so I could use nuts and bolts in some places to make it stronger
Welding on engine bay side.
Holes for the clutch master cylinder.
Covering the joints with filler.

Replacing the firewall
Here has the support for the foot rest been removed. Allso a mark where the hole for the water out let from the ac should be
Drilling out the hole for the “water outlet” from the ac unit
Behind right fender. Rust protection paint and then a thick layer of rust protection
Joints covered with rust protection.

Steering column support
I´m not quite sure what the exact term is for this part in English (or Swedish ). It supports the steering column.
This small part caused quite a lot of work to be adapted to LHD. Here it is still on the right/wrong side.
I tried to find a used LHD version of it, but ended up redesigning the RHD one into LHD.
The SC verision of this part i totaly different and couldn´t be used on the supra.

Steering column support
This view from above is good. Shows the unmodified RHD version
The “ears” had to be bent in shape to fit on the left side.
Modified Version. Compare with above.
Welded in place
The inside of the firewall finished.

Differences and similarities SUPRA vs SC: Firewall area
If we take the pic with the finished LHD version on the supra(red) again and compare it with the SC (green) we can see this::
*The sc has its wind shield ca 1 inch higher than the supra
*floor and firewall is the same
*tunnel is the same , but this supra has it adapted for the v160, which makes it a bit higher
*bolt holes for all the pedals is exactly the same
*Since the area between the windshield and the firewall is lower on the supra you´ll have to adapt the brackets for the heater/ac unit
*bolt holes is different for the dashboard support. Will need modification.
*Only small differences out on the sides, under the fenders

Some evil person had painted directly on the dirt. Impossible to clean up. Had to be sanded.
