Are you the only one with such issues or are there others? Debating if i should now invest in an intake or not.
I am the only one with this issue. Rafi has been great to try and resolve the issue, but it is turning into too much work and I don't want to burn his time and we never get to a point of it having the daily drivability that I am looking for. Others have had issues that typically have been resolved by reviewing their installation to ensure no vacuum leaks. If I were you I would go for it. It is a nice mod.
Hopefully going forwards I will have some better quality images. zmcgovern4 has helped me catch the photography bug. I broke out my laughable 13 year old Nikon D70 to take these pics yesterday while I wait on some new gear to be delivered.
We are very close to having salt off the roads. So, after letting the powder coat on my LC818s cure for the last month I got around to giving the faces some light correction and applied a nano-coating to make them to make my life a little easier when cleaning them up.
Nothing terribly exciting to report, but I have hashed out a few annoying issues in the past 6 weeks. A couple of issues that seems to be common among F owners were plaguing me.
I was having a HEAVY gas smell when driving, especially with the windows cracked. I pulled the cabin pressure relief vents and the flaps were completely missing. So, I quickly cut a piece of cardboard to fit and duct taped it in place. Problem solved. I plan to order new OE pieces since that solution will likely not stand the test of time. The interior of the trunk with thoughougly cleaned, carpets were shampooed and exctracted, and I finished up with Carpro's silica based odor neutralizer.
I then addressed I an issue I was having with a metallic click near the rear wheels. I picked up some axle nuts and gave those a try. It took longer to get the car in the air and remove the wheels than it did to swap the nuts. Luckily it fixed my issue.
I then moved front. After I initally lowered the car with springs I had SPC ball joints pressed into the upper A arms. Since there is not much clearance to fit a wrench or socket to tighten the adjustment bolt, they had come loose and were making noise. Rather than having this happen again, since I have to pay for another alignment I picked up a set of Megan A arms. I don't track the car, so Figs seemed like complete overkill. I installed those tonight. So, I am going to make a few on the fly adjustments to eliminate rubbing at my current height with the coilovers and I will it aligned with the proper toe and matching side to side camber. I am thinking I will need around -2° to -2.5° in order to solve my minor rubbing issues.
One other thing to mention. The previous owner had went out and purchased a HID fog light kit. There were no cutoff shields so they blinded everyone and quite frankly the quality of these kits is commonly terrible. A while back I picked up 14' OEM LED fogs, which are terrific, but... when I made the switch I realized the hid kit had a terrible moisture seal and the pins had corroded inside the factory plug. Despite a lot of time with contact cleaner and a pic I never got the driver's side fog to work 100% of the time. Luckily the passenger side had a better seal. So, I picked up a generic plug and replaced the OEM plug. The wiring was heat shrinked and is waterproof, so with a new plug in place that issue is permanently solved.
