I spoke with Tweak'd performance today as I'm 99% sure their harness is what came with my swap from the donor car. I told them about my 02 sensor dilemma and according to them I am in the wrong on which 02 I currently have installed. I'm currently running a USDM Supra Turbo primary 02, however, they have recommended I run an IS300 VVTI 02 sensor.

My question is - it's a 4-wire 02 sensor and only three wires go back to the ECU from the plug - do I need to ground the additional 02 sensor wire or just leave it alone?

Thanks for the help!

That extra wire should be the heater ground wire. On the 3 wire o2's its just grounded internally so grounding it should do the trick.

Terrific - thanks for chiming in as always Ali! I'll get that sensor swapped out and get it grounded to the VC or something near by.

Awesome news - I've befriended a local electronics repair guy that fixes various euro stuff here for us at the shop. He helped me look at my Supra 6-speed VVTI ecu, we replaced caps (weren't leaking, but we were in there and he had them on the shelf), and checked everything over... Turns out some of my old issues must have been related to either my bad TPS adjustment or the bad throttle body I swapped out (thanks Gerry!).

Installed it... Turned it on... and SUCCESS! The car runs awesome, no more CEL for the incorrect speed sensor, and now AC works as it should through the dash button without having to do the little relay which I was against as it didn't protect anything from over-revving the compressor if you weren't paying attention before a pull. I need to put some miles on it and let the ECU learn, but so far it's a big upgrade in convenience and drivability!

PS - should have some Cressida updates in the next week or two...

Hope you all are well!

It's always nice to get an upgrade in the drivability department! I've done a few swaps and beater project cars and the younger version of myself never cared about AC. Now, between getting older and the obvious effects of climate change here in Denver having AC is truly a blessing!

I've been driving it around and it's running like a champ. The ECU clearly needs some time to learn but otherwise all is well. I doubt the ECU change would affect my emissions readings at all, but now, with no CEL, I don't even know where to start to diag my emissions issues lol.

Congratulations, Rudy!! Getting your VVT-i ECU checked out and having new capacitors put in certainly can help when it comes to passing emissions. You've got nothing to lose with it being freshened up. I'm happy to hear that your CEL issues went away and that you're getting nice smooth operation from the engine again!

Having spent most of my life in Florida I've learned that working A/C is life . It's also the same in CA even thought the climate is far less humid. Especially on those 100F+ days. There are definitely some climate change extremes afoot. That also means we need the cooling systems for these cars in top condition.

Looking forward to more of your SC as always and a follow up for your V8 Cressida

Thank you Craig!! I'm thrilled to say the least - as you get older it's funny to see what gets us excited about "upgrades" such as AC and no CEL. Ten years ago I couldn't of cared less!

Can't wait to show you guys the Cressida again - soon my friends!

Well - this bad boy made it's maiden voyage last night!! Drove it across town from my buddy's shop last night and it runs like a little banshee. There's definitely a lot of work in it's future. Something is making noise and clunking quite nicely over bumps which it never used to do, but that's all part of the process! The glass pack side pipes from Summit (run as true duals, no room for an x pipe) sound absolutely killer, ha! Not too loud, but when you stop on it it's quite obvious what's under the hood. Great throttle response, it runs nice and cool, and even has PS with custom hoses I had made here in town (No A/C on this one though, ha). It takes off well from a dig and squeals the 195's out of the hole so easily haha.

I'll try and post a sound clip or cruise video soon!

Hope y'all are well - enjoy!

Even a little video of the exhaust note would be awesome, Rudy! The Cressida is looking great!

Not all cars can pull off side pipes but your Cressida is definitely one of them and for those cars that wear them well I've always been a fan. They just look perfect on your car. The period correct alloy wheels complete the look, too!

Thanks Craig!! I'm just thrilled about this thing. It needs some serious lovin through the suspension, and I'm having a HELL of a time finding a windshield glass for it... But, all things considered, I love this dumb car!

Rudy, the most important thing is that the car is something you love and which makes you happy. If it accomplishes those things then it can never be dumb I think it's pretty cool!

Aside, it needs an LSD! I know that you said finding one that fits your application is pretty difficult though. Have you tried asking Jeff Lange (here on CL and on SF) if he knows of any compatible alternative gear ratios and/or LSD that your Cressida could use? He's a guru and knows a lot about 80's Toyota drivelines and Toyota differential families, having fully restored his AE86 Corolla and having done an LSD swap and 3.5L V6 swap to his 2006+ IS250 M/T.

Craig your comments are always so appreciated and thoughtful! I couldn't agree more - I love cruising this thing around town! I've been rocking the Guardians of the Galaxy soundtrack on tape that my fiance got for me to cruise to!

It desperately needs an LSD! The rear solid axle is very similar to old Toyota trucks so I wouldn't doubt if the ring gears are the same physically. It's certainly on the list and I'll be sure to try and contact Jeff Lange!

Here it is purring before work this morning. The suspension desperately needs some attention - so that's first on the list of updates I hope to accomplish this summer! If anyone has any leads on how to find a windshield glass for this thing please let me know - mine is trashed and it's proving VERY difficult to find! Also, check out the ridiculous badge my friend came over with. I couldn't help but put it on!

Casual tire and oil change today on the SC. Throw some fresh Falken FK510's on (I love these for the money - cheap, sticky, and leave some terrific black marks in the street). 255/40/R18's in the rear and 245/40/R18's in the front. This is my second set of rears since the swap lol - I just can't help myself in this car!!

Happy cruising this weekend!!
