Default Project GS-X 2.0

Figure I'd start a fresh thread since this is gonna be a fresh build.
Out with the old in with the new (sort of).
As mentioned in my other build thread I aquired a black GS4.
This thing is a POS but salvageable. I like projects like this. Gonna break this one down to the bone grizzle, refresh everything I can and switch all my parts over and I've allready started. If the engine gods smile down on me and I get my way I plan to build the engine from the ground up as well. But that's a project for another time.

Damn, you are not wasting any time. What high flow cats did you get? I had these on my silver GS4, bought them again for my black GS4. They worked great.

Amazon Amazon

They were $65 when I bought them.

For all you folks that wanna/gonna install headers onto these 1UZ's I dont recall if I mentioned this before and it probably has been covered allready but just in case..
When removing the exhaust manifold on a GS400 there is ONE stud/nut that is a PITAAA.
Its the top second one from the front of the engine, driver's side (Next to the oil dipstick). You will need an open end rachet and socket. The way the manifold is designed there is a lip that prevents the use of a boxed end wrench; racheting or otherwise. To further the fukery, a deep socket is too long (runner that overlaps the stud wont allow it) and a regular sized socket is too short to clear the stud.

My mechanic installed my PPE headers last month. That bolt was the worst thing. I told him to saw the heat shield off and saw the pipes off the oem manifold to get that bolt off. After all the labor that went into it, the oem headers are never going back on.

Timing belt time!!
Folks, please check that weep hole off the water pump once in a while.
You might get lucky and run it past due and not blow your engine, then again you might not and your timing belt pops cause coolant leaked onto it causing a chain reaction..bye bye valves!
Change that crank seal out while your at too.

Almost done upfront. Everything is clean (or as clean as I can get it). A few more nuts and bolts and I'll be finished with the front end. Finally.

Technically yes, I still have it. But I'm moving everything over to this GS so this one will be supercharged with a few more upgrades.
I would like to add cams in the future. Hopefully that works out.

It’s the little things. Love the copper colored fuel rails and manifold nuts. How’d you tighten those nuts on w/o ruining the paint on em?

The current SC GS is the black one now. In the process of moving the rear subframe over now. Engine is done. Only the rear and interior left to do.. only..lol
