That is incredibly rare at an HPDE - at least the ones I've attended. Yes, someone can always have a mechanical failure and bad things can, and do happen, but it's not at all common.

I appreciate that feedback. I’m conservative in nature based on my insurance litigation experience. Everyone I talk to says their “insurance guy” says their policy covers it… but I tell you with 99.9 certainty it does not. If it isn’t IN WRITING that you can run your car on a track prepped surface with coverage, you can’t. I believe there are zero coverages nationwide that include HPDE, but I haven’t read every single policy, so I can’t say for sure.

With events being rare, it makes me more comfortable trying.

You can purchase a track day policy from Hagerty Insurance, I did this for my first track day at a cost of about $100. The coverage applies only while
you are on track grounds for the specific event you registered... After that first event I have felt comfortable not purchasing the coverage when going
to additional track days.

That ended a long time ago. None of the majors cover an HPDE in most states. I bought track insurance from Lockton specifically for HPDEs. It wasn't $100, but it covered everything north of the first $5k in damages when my IS F was less than 3 years old. I never needed it, but my instructor at my second track weekend let a friend drive his modded 350Z and ended up using the insurance after his friend rolled his car. It's certainly your call, but again, needed it is very unlikely and with a reasonably high deductible, it's only intended to take the sting out of a catastrophic loss. Definitely not for replacing a damaged headlight from track debris.

I ended up taking the day off to clean out my garage and purge all of the busted car parts. While I was doing that I was able to find some pictures from a photographer that VIR uses and I purchased a bunch of these. I love the way that these came out, especially the one that is head on and you can see my eyes, and the one with the Michelin bridge in the background. Thought I would share.

Finally got my garage purged of the old parts. Thought this would be a cooler shot than it turned out, but these are the major parts that got replaced from the car.

Is the damaged wheel a front or a rear?

It was from the passenger front. My plan is to cut the face of it off and hang it on the wall in my garage, just haven’t found a place that could do it.

It has been a pretty long time since I’ve updated my YouTube and this thread. Since the last time I posted I’ve taken the car to VIR in August and I’m headed to Summit Point in two more weeks.

Since getting the car back together I’ve put approximately 5k miles on it and have had a blast with it. My every day car is a 21 Tundra and i find myself resisting the urge to put mile on this car and take the truck. What I love most about the car is the back seat because I have two small kids. They love riding on the car and they have tons more space than in my IS300.

Overall I haven’t needed to do much of anything to the car since it has been running. I noticed the fog light on the passenger side much have a crack in it from the collision because it has been collecting water. I bought some new 4Runner led fog lights that someone recommended on the ISF Facebook group, I just haven’t gotten around to installing them yet.

One thing I do want to do before next track season is an oil cooler. In August I couldn’t get more than 2/3rds into a 25 minute session before getting a high oil temp warning on the cluster and it was only about 80-85F outside.

My intentions with the car originally were to rebuild it, drive it for a bit, then sell it to fund another project. After this past year of driving it I am intending to hang onto it for a good while.
