i think you can use the same filter as a toyota supra? i'm not 100% sure because i'm a v8... if that's the case you don't have to pay lexus premiums and just get the filter from your toyota dealership.

i go to napa and get a wix gold filter. or read up on http://www.bobistheoilguy.com

as for the air filter, get a k&n. usually lordco is the place to get them, but i'm not sure of the pricing.

good idea
lordco is so overpriced though
ill ask a friend of a friend who works there to see if he can get me some good pricing

is K&N filter much better over stock?

The genuine Toyota parts numbers for my GS300 are:

Oil Filter
90915-YZZD1

Air Filter
17801-46080

Oil drain plug gasket
90430-12031

ben, is K&N really worth it?
ive been looking into it, seems like a fuss that i have to clean it with a kit
but then its only once per 40,000~50,000 miles or something
ill try to get it from my friend that works at lordco if it is economical

does it help with gas mileage btw?

it's not like you have to clean it at every service. unless you drive in the desert or something and it's full of crap.

the last time i cleaned one it took 20 minutes at most. just do go nuts on the oil or else it fouls everything up from the MAF sensor to the throttle body plate (been there done that).

or talk to akira.

i rmbr seeing a 'comparison' of sorts on these high-flow air filters... oil from cars w/ high-flows were considerably dirtier than those w/ non-performance ones... i'll see if i can find the link...

FWIW: http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/airfilter/airtest3.htm

yeah ive read that
thanx

now im wondering if that 1% of extra dirt is enuf to cause some engine problems down the line
i do want to keep this car for sometime because its still got low mileage right now

i guess ill go for either fram or toyota but then toyota is like 48 bucks from port moody lexus...

btw oil filter 90915-YZZD1 for GS300, IS300, supra... is $5.25 each when u buy 6 or more
seems like a good price compared to what they charge down in the states too

it probly isn't as long as you change your oil regularly... but i dunno... cheaper and less work and potentially safer for your car... how much power can you get from a filter anyways :P

heh yeah
im not really looking for performance increase though
more or less just seeing what alternatives are there since toyota air filters cost a heck lot than what they are worth

ah i see
i bought a FRAM replacement filter for 17801-46080
FRAM one is made in Korea and it looks exactly the same as the lexus Denso one

if it wasnt the difference btwn where it was made, i wouldnt be able to tell the difference

same paper thickness and same amount of pleats
same colour for the plastic too

anyways
the oil filter i bought is 5.25 per filter if i buy 6 or more
i bought 6 last time
when im running low, maybe we can do a group buy or something
