Default in the same boat.......

Part A) My wife and I are looking to buy an IS 250 AT base. I know that there aren't many built so we may have to wait but that's not concern to us. I believe there is a $3k markup on thar specific car so is asking for half that (1500) of the MSRP feasible?

Part B) We also looked state side and know that the base AT comes with leather and moonroof. That's pretty sweet and very hard to ignore.

CAR IS SOLD!!!!

Going on sat to crunch numbers. Any last minute tips? Like I said before there base IS250 MT on the lot is selling for around $34,000. That includes all fees, mats, and block heater. Pretty much everything $34,000 with out tax. What's a fair price to ask for? $33,000? $32,000?

+1 for carcostcanada.com

I used them when I wanted to get invoice pricing for an 08 GS350 AWD. I had absolutely no clue what I was working with and found the $40 or so well worth it.

I know I got a GS350 AWD, but to give you an idea of what markups are like:

MSRP for the model I got (ML package) was $64,500 (+$1780 freight)
Invoice price was $57,901 (+$1780 freight - imagine that, they don't make money on freight!)

This represents a markup of $6599 or 11.4%. I would assume that they are using similar markups throughout their lineup, give or take a couple of percentage points.

Personally I think if you're gonna drop $34,000, $40 is not a bad investment to make to know where to start your negotiations. I got my car for invoice + $2000 (I probably could have got a better deal if I negotiated harder) and without knowing invoice I would have had no idea where to start negotiating.

In fact, I went into the dealership thinking of offering invoice + 4% ($2300) and they gave me $2000. Of course I asked for invoice + 3% ($1700) but didn't get it. Still, the fact that I thought I was gonna have to fight for invoice + 4% but get a better deal (approximately invoice + 3.5%) made it a bit easier to sign on the dotted line.

I leased my car by the way. If I had the cash, I probably would have looked real seriously at buying one in the US and bringing it back. The US MSRP is actually less than the Canadian invoice price for the GS. Crazy. I could have bought a GS and a Corolla in the US for what the going rate was for the GS here. And that's including all the applicable fees (6% excise tax, RIV fee, etc).

Hey man, okay so i walked in the dealership with no intentions of buying a car.
i got the same excuse. $31,900 for the base MT so i was like alright..anything lexus under 40 is a complete steal. IMO, i dislike leather too cold in winter and too hot in summer im just not a fan. i hate driving automatic because i feel my left foot is going to fall off because its lazy. so i talked 500 off.
and free floormats. then changed my mind and said i wanted the trunk spoiler take back the mats and ill pay the diff. so i got the trunk spoiler for 450 instead of 566... not too shabby... this was in february. i asked for white on black.6MT ive waited 3 months i was passing the dealership and i say them off loading cars.. i had to pull in..Yes Mine was the only White IS on that entire truck
and the vin numbers matched.

i dont think you should be penny-wise pound foolish about negotiating a large amount off the MSRP because they are back orderd they really could care less about your business if your going to low-ball them..

on a better note.. i pick up my car on the 29th

Well I bought mine last sat. I'm like you I not a fan of leather and automatic. The only thing I with it had was a sunroof. But You need to get the leather /wheel package to get that. I'm getting after market wheels anyways so the 16 will make good winter tires.

First he said the is not much mark up on the base and the most he could do was $500. I ask if he could do any better and he said no. So I said ok well I have a contact in Calgary and I've been looking in the US used as well and got up to leave. Right away he stopped me and said lets see what else I can do. He ended up taking off $1000 and the block heater and floor mat free.

I also just had to have white so mine come in July... Can't wait!
