Eventually replaced that Discman with the D-321 model with ESP (3-second buffer), which resolved that for me and consigned audio cassettes to the trashbin of history.
For me it was probably 2010 or so. My cars still had tape decks until 2015, at least my car did, but once I had BT streaming in the ES350 I never used them again.

Absolutely. There's an old saying....if it isn't broke, don't fix it.

The 1960's called, they want their technology back.

Except that there are huge benefits to digital vs analog music. By your logic nothing would ever progress and improve.

Digital music allows for CDs, MP3s, streaming, satellite...

Wrong.....completely wrong. There are many automotive things that I felt were broke and needed fixing. In fact, IMO, AM radio was one of them...as I stated in previous posts. Cassettes and 8-tracks could also be a PITA......the tapes would often get jammed/snarled in and around the rollers.

So then your statement about analog vs digital audio meant nothing?

I don't consider myself enough of an expert in audio systems to have a strong opinion either way in that comparison. I'm generally satisfied with the nice stereo systems that Buick and GM use in their vehicles....and my Sirius XM account. I also don't listen much to music at all on the automotive radio....mostly news, weather, commentaries, C-Span, and Catholic radio.

‘I have no issue with agreeing to the huge benefits for digital. That said, the experience of vinyl can be very fun, satisfying and offers a sound and experience that can’t be topped.

Totally agree, that’s why people are still into it.

i don't think i've ever heard anyone younger than boomers say that.

AM isn't 'broke' it just sucks. FM better. digital radio better still.

maybe the saying should be "if it isn't as good as the new thing, let it go".

.
AM doesn’t suck for talk radio. Narrow bandwidth means better reception. Far wider coverage

Haha, I like that.

Yeah I do not understand the drive to resist things being made better and refined as time goes on. Who wants to listen to AM radio? Only people who refuse to adopt modern digital talk entertainment. Podcasts, etc way better than what we ever had with talk radio. I have a great NPR app that shows up on CarPlay and I just click it, choose if I want national or local content and it does its thing.

Its just outdated technology that no longer serves a purpose. It did at one time, but it doesn't any longer. In the era of near ubiquitous internet service reception doesn't matter. Its expensive to broadcast an AM signal where anybody with a phone can record a podcast and get it out.

I have a phone in my pocket that gets high speed internet basically anywhere I am. My home has high speed internet. Each of my cars have their own high speed internet connections, reception doesn't matter.
