Haha, I like that.
Yeah I do not understand the drive to resist things being made better and refined as time goes on. Who wants to listen to AM radio? Only people who refuse to adopt modern digital talk entertainment. Podcasts, etc way better than what we ever had with talk radio. I have a great NPR app that shows up on CarPlay and I just click it, choose if I want national or local content and it does its thing.
Its just outdated technology that no longer serves a purpose. It did at one time, but it doesn't any longer. In the era of near ubiquitous internet service reception doesn't matter. Its expensive to broadcast an AM signal where anybody with a phone can record a podcast and get it out.
I have a phone in my pocket that gets high speed internet basically anywhere I am. My home has high speed internet. Each of my cars have their own high speed internet connections, reception doesn't matter.

It absolutely still serves a purpose. There are lots of people who don’t want to be using their phones 24/7. And you can’t get Major League Baseball or NHL hockey on free AM on the internet, you have to pay. I like to just get in and go and sometimes I like to listen to local talk radio

I am not the radio station. Ask them?
I have no issue with AM, FM or XM, CD or streaming. I tend to listen to a lot of podcasts on my iPhone 6S and classical FM on the FM dial. I get CDs all the time from the library. But every once in a while I like to listen to AM talk in the morning and listen to the stupid debate in the City of Toronto of how they want to tear down the Gardiner Expressway and build a park. Or the new debate regarding public transit and the violence occurring so the city is paying Toronto Police overtime to patrol the subways. I would very disappointed to buy a car that lacked AM. I also much prefer listen to the Blue Jays on the radio and that I can’t do on streaming for free.

But you have to understand that you are the extreme minority, and when they design products they design them for the majority. Makes total sense to no longer have AM radio in a car.

I think its the extreme minority...not people who listen to the radio, lots of people still listen to FM radio, but those who listen to AM radio.

and the problem with AM is because there's so few listeners and it's 'free', it's covered in advertising so i wouldn't be surprised if for every hour of content you probably listen to 15 minutes of commercials and of course you can't pause/ff/rwd.

I am ENTHUSIASTIC about paying for content so that I don't have to watch advertisements. I pay for YouTube just so there are no ads.
