Mercedes is absolutely going to develop a new ICE engine, we can bet on that too if you want. I like small silly, friendly bets.

You still don't think Chevy will be making V8 Silverados in 2030? That's only 5.5 years away now. I'll be waiting for my $20 Venmo on 12:01am Jan 1st 2030 lol. And I'll in turn happily eat crow too if I'm wrong and they do stop, but they won't lol.

So with all due respect, I disagree with your particular future vision.

MB has shut down and reassigned all of their engineers and have no ICE engines in development. They're not going to be developing new ICE powertrains. Like I said to Jill though, they have all new engines...they don't need to develop new engines to have ICE powertrains available in their cars for the next 30 years.

Like it or not, globally governments are going to make it almost impossible for people to buy ICE cars, so yes EVs are coming.

I never said GM won't be making V8 Silverados in 2030, I said I wouldn't be surprised if they were not. I think you will still see V8 trucks in 2030 yes.

The issue there is not EV vs ICE its beautiful design vs ugly. The EQS is just ugly, ICE or EV. If they offered an EV version of the S Class it would sell better. The i7 take rats for the 7 Series is almost 40%.
Just without getting specific, what car there is more desirable? And way cheaper. Kind of a no-brainer. That's all I'm really saying.

I may drive something tomorrow bc I'm going in for a Service A.

No doubt the S Class is more desirable, but the engine is not why. The W223 S Class is not cheaper than the EQS, you simply have a loaded EQS and a base and discounted S Class.

FWIW, this was Mercedes statement on this subject from April 2023:

Even though Mercedes will continue to sell combustion-powered cars in the years to come, it will focus mainly on the development of more efficient and greener electric machines. The brand’s CEO said Mercedes will develop electric-only vehicle architectures and will adapt them to accommodate ICEs when the case makes a business case. Ultimately, the firm wants to reach CO2 neutrality in balance sheet terms by 2039.

This is what BMW has done. You also see this in the new Dodge Charger. You like to say this is a reversal from MB but they have always said they will continue to sell combustion powered cars.

That is absolutely NOT what you said.

The bet was very clear, that there would be no new V8 Chevy trucks in 2030, that was your position. I even screenshotted it SOMEWHERE because I know these posts disappear. I'll have to look for it.

About Benz.....So Mercedes in 2050 will still be using engines from 2020ish? New ICEs will be developed--- are you kidding me??

No, I think by 2050 MB is going to be selling all EVs, I think that will be the case long before that.

You don't realize how long a company like MB uses the same basic engine in their designs. They can improve the current crop of engines without developing an all new engine. I'm not saying the engine will be unchanged, but you're not going to see new ICE development no. Their resources are going into electrification,.

Well, we'll see. In other news... I haven't seen any new E-Classes at the dealer yet. Nobody has anything, no Lexus GXs... No LCs.

I didn't drive one, but the interior is very nice. Honestly, better than the W223 S Class IMO. The ones I sat in were low options too.

I don’t think Mercedes is going to be developing a whole new slew of engines either, if I have to be honest. Look how long BMW has been evolving their N63 V8 - the first iteration was created in 2008 and it’s still being used. All of Mercedes’ current engines are pretty young, so they can easily stretch well into the future.

New E Class has better interior than S class? Again I'm going for service tomorrow, I might drive something. I hope that they have an SL43.

Yes it does, the wood console alone and the shape of the dash integration is better. They also use a smooth MBTEX on the dash that feels more like real leather than the grained MBTEX they use on the S Class. Obviously seat materials and headlining and all are better in the S Class.

If you’re going to spend the time driving something at least drive something you will like. You’ll hate the SL43.

I'm kind of surprised to see how many E-Classes being sold on US dealer lots currently have the superscreen, especially since these are just E350 base models. It may actually be a challenge if one wants to find an E450 without the passenger screen.

It's the first time in maybe 8 years I've seen Mercedes have a reliable enough supply chain where a flashy option is actually available at launch. Most times options like the super screen are limited availability for quite some time at launch.

As the model run goes it will be more common to find them without it.
