Some cool tech here. Ability to add smart home like automations like changing the ambient lighting or climate mode or turning on heated seats when temp is a certain way, etc.

Good to see some sedans survive.
Agree, I hear ya.

The screen on the right getting blacked out looks good and works for me.
Everyone else can go crazy with multi screens and animations. lol

Very impressive effort and tech, but for me, it stops with the styling.
Better than BWM at least or you like BMW better?

There's prob many features most people won't use but that's MB for ya, it's there if ya want it.
My MB had many buttons I had no idea what they did since I never read the manual and that was years ago until they added more stuff. lol

Not a facelift, this is a new generation. I thought the tail light logos were tacky at first but strangely in person they don't really stand out (imo).

I think it looks really good.
Thinking I have the Triple Pointed Star syndrome everyone talks about cuz there are no MB models I don't like.
Definatley not my German blood cuz BMW has some doozys that are hard on my eyes. lol

Considering the outgoing generation W213 E-Class was on an all-new modular back in 2016 called MRA, this new W214 E-Class is just an evolution of the W213 E-Class on the revised modular architecture called MRA II, debuted by the W223 S-Class 2 years ago. The real shocker will be if W215 chassis E-Class will ever exist in 2030 as an ICE, with BEV EQE already in existence since last year. The E-Class as we know it is probably dead, giving way to EQE.

That's not really true. Wasn't the case with the W213 nor W212. It's actually the opposite. W213 was influenced by the W222 S-Class (2013) and W205 C-Class (2014).

W222 S-Class (Dated 8 April 2013)

W205 C-Class (Dated Autumn 2013)

W213 E-Class Hybrid (Dated Autumn 2015)

W222 S 400 Hybrid (Dated 8 April 2013)

W205 C 300 BlueTec Hybrid (Dated Autumn 2013)

W213 E 350e Hybrid (Dated Autumn 2015)

W222 S 400 Hybrid (Dated 8 April 2013)

W205 C 300 BlueTec Hybrid (Dated Autumn 2013)

W213 E 350e Hybrid (Dated Autumn 2015)

W222 S 400 Hybrid (Dated 8 April 2013)

W205 C 300 BlueTec Hybrid (Dated Autumn 2013)

W213 E 350e Hybrid (Dated Autumn 2015)

W222 S-Class Interior (Dated 15 February 2013)

W205 C 300 BlueTec (Dated Autumn 2013)

W213 E 350e Hybrid (Dated Autumn 2015)

The previous generation W212 E-Class (Facelift) below had the old squarish design language, while the above were Sensual Purity established with the 2014 S-Class, followed by the 2015 C-Class, and 2017 E-Class. The latest S, C, and E are sharpened up evolution, meaning the next S or EQS will be ground zero.

W212.5 E-Class Interior (Dated 29 September 2012)

W212.5 E 300 BlueTec Hybrid Prototype (Dated 29 November 2012)

I'm not sure the W224 will ever come to market either in 2027, now that there's V297 EQS. ICE S-Class may not see further development at MB beyond the upcoming W223 facelift next year, after which the incumbent W223 S-Class is due for replacement in late 2027/early 2028.

Hmm carmaker1 we’ve already been told the EQ models aren’t getting successors. Every word that I’ve heard so far suggests that, much like the electric next-gen CLA, the EV successors to the ICE vehicles today will be much more conventionally styled. We should see the first spy pics of the EV C-class early next year, which will be the first one to debut on the MB.EA platform. That will be telling.

interior looks cool, but seems like it's primarily styled to look good for this shot:

instead of prioritizing ergonomics and usability... but that's just MB knowing their customer base lol

I like most of it except the scalloped headlights. That's a blast to a 2000's Chrysler past.

w223

seems like way more than 'evolution'.

Why post so confidently about something you don’t know about? It really makes me question your credibility, something I’ve already questioned for a long time.

I’ve never understood why an industry insider would risk their career leaking and posting information on a message board for the 10-15 regulars of Car Chat?

It’s never made sense to me and when you go and post about things that are very clearly incorrect, it makes me question things even further.

Edit: I apologize if this came across as harsh, I just don’t like misinformation.

If you really are who you say you are, I apologize, but it still doesn’t make sense to me that you’d risk your career to pass information off to a small group of random strangers on the internet, but hey, you do you.

Regarding the new E-Class, I like it a lot, inside and out. I hope it does well for them but I have zero idea how it will do in today’s SUV/crossover obsessed market.

They introduced a lot of Mercedes firsts in this new E-Class, including phone as a key, which I’m really bitter about lol. My EQS SUV doesn’t have phone as a key and coming from a Tesla, I’m not used to having to carry a key fob around. Luckily it’s metal and heavy and I enjoy using it, but still!

I would say the 223 is clearly an evolution of the 222 design. Not a dramatic departure at all.

What hes saying is with Mercedes design comes down from the S Class typically. The E Class is not a sign of the future of the S Class, the E Class is a derivative of the S Class design.

To be fair, he’s been extremely accurate on many other topics several years ahead of when they’ve been confirmed. He’s been posting on various forums for several years now and it’s been quite insightful. He also has development pictures and stories of cars that aren’t discussed anywhere else on the internet. I’ve learned a ton.

Nice to see Benz continue to invest in sedans.
Absolutely magnificent looking piece of work.
I'm sure: space, ergonomics, power, torque, econony, maneuverability, handling, ride, equipment, and safety - will be spot on as always.
Though I dont expect the longevity of a Lexus.

did you have to quote all 2 dozen photos again?

i think carmaker1 shares a lot of insider info (if you can sift through all the text) which is great, but the posts don't need to be so long.
