If you look at the old G30 camo photos, the overhang is pretty bad too. Its not like they overnight made it that way, the overhangs have been growing steadily for a few generations now.
That isn't nearly as bad as the G60, whose overhang is actually longer than the dash-to-axle. And unlike the G60, where every spyshot made the FWD overhang blatantly obvious, the G30 never had that problem.
Regarding the previous dash-to-axle convo, as seen in this new picture.
The hoodline rises extremely high above the beltline at the A Pillar, which contributes to a longer-looking front overhang as it slopes downwards to it, as opposed to being flat and aligned with the beltline.
I just don’t like the direction style wise BMW is going. It’s not terrible but not good either. Just another car I would have to get in a dark color to hide the ugliness.
Woof. The FWD overhang is prominently there, and the car is so tall (59.6 inches!) and bloated because of the battery that they have to paint the entire lower rocker panel black.
I'm really disappointed. The 5 Series has long been a favorite of mine and a car I have long been inspired to own. The styling here feels generic. The rear 1/3rd of the car looks like it could be any Honda or whatever. Other than the front, I just don't see those typical BMW styling cues that I like so much. Maybe it'll grow on me, but I'm not so sure.
I don't like the trim around the windows, and extending into the mirror. It looks a little better in the pix above with the black Shadowline trim, but not so much in the brushed chrome:

that front lighting though shows bmw has gone back to the angry look - the "get out of my way" driver attitude included.
