The issue with the W223 interior, aside from the tacked on screens that are way better integrated in the new C Class/GLC, is these areas I have circled are hard, cheap feeling plastic which is going to get scuffed and scratched up and you see and feel them every time you get in and out of the car. In my W222 those areas are fully carpeted, and in the new 7 they are fully carpeted. The previous 7 Series those were hard plastic like in the W223 and thats one of the things that turned me off from the interior.
Great, now I have to look at my cars tonight to see what mine look like. Part of me doesn't mind the plastic because it is easier to clean and less to vacuum.

In LX it’s not carpet but I’m okay with that because it’s a truck designed to get all kinds of messed up. And there’s a rock solid metal scuff plate right there. Wonder if the 100 series had carpet there.
On another note, all are tanks but dare I say the Mercedes has the most solid looking door hinge? What do you guys think?
Couldn't stand that butt-cheek grille. Everything else could be perfectly the way I want but that grille ruins it for me. It's arguably worse than the spindle grille, which was/is a total disaster in itself.

It may just be because people kick that area so often they didn't bother?

I agree it's horrendous looking from most angles.
I do like however that the EV version looks the same.
I wonder why the A8 doesn't seem to get any traction in this category. I personally find it the most elegant car in the class. Maybe it's because it's an older design and this is a fashion category that values newness?

Same here. I just went out to the garage and checked my cars hoping all the time that my wife wouldn't ask me what I was doing lol.

You just vacuum carpet. Plastic gets all permanently scuffed up. This is also an ultra luxury car, the materials are important. I don't care that those sills on my Pacifica or a lesser car or SUV are plastic. This was just cost cutting from MB
Depends on how dirty it is. I keep my black carpet in the GX mine reasonably clean with a power-vacuum and rubbing it with a damp-to-wet towel and giving hot a fee minutes to dry

Again, depends on the quality of the plastic and how much it is kicked or abraded. I've seen plastic that varies from superb quality to stuff that you couldn't even tap with your finger.
The plastic in the W223 S class is hard, cheap feeling plastic. Its very similar to whats in my Pacifica. Has no place in a car of that caliber.

Good quality carpet is very stain resistant, such as what is in a Mercedes. Having carpet stains in that area is not an issue. Even what look like stains generally will suck out with a vacuum.
Yeah if you've actually touched some of the materials in the W223 it's clear cost cutting occurred. As I've said before, I can only hope when Mercedes is no longer stretching itself across the EQS and S-class that the interior material quality returns.
