And I agree with Steve that I don't see anything outlandish-looking about the WRX's that the OP posted.
I think we need a poll thread on this car.

Ugly or not?
Lots to talk about. haha

I see the difference obviously, I just think the old car was also ugly.

lol we've been over the Saturn plastic body panels thing quite a few times they did not live up to their promise at all. Too heavy, they warp, and in cold weather crack and pieces break and fall off. It used to be common around here to see them driving down the road with holes in the fenders and doors. Another problem was the steel structure holding the body panels rusts readily. There is a very good reason plastic body panels were abandoned long ago.

In salvage yards the interiors get stripped clean the quality of plastic used was garbage. All of these things could have been refined and fixed but of course GM loves to kill off anything that is not conventional.

It looks awkward, tall, and plasticky. 60% of that rear bumper is a slab of plastic.. I mean come on, does that look like a sporting compact car to y'all?

The front end is okay at best.. but the rest of the car just looks tall and awkward to me.

I mean, take into account it's significantly better looking predecessors:

Both genuinely sporty and aggressive looking, with flared fenders and sharp detailing.

Ok I disagree - looks ok to me for a sporty entry level sedan.

Hate, hate the black molding around the wheel wells. That grille is also way too big and the whole car is badly overstyled.

Japan is in love with the fake jet fighter intake look.

Tacky and overstyled, but the boy racer kids blasting around in these like that type of thing. I don't think Subaru was off with their design. Certainly not tasteful nor my cup of tea though.
As far as sitting on lots, many brands are starting to bolster inventory. Things are finally turning the corner.

There are fewer M3 allocations than M4, this was the case for F8x gen as well. I had 2 F8x M3s and both i had to wait for while M4s were available. BMW no longer breaks down M figures so who knows. I can only tell based dealer inventory and allocation count that M3 is more in demand. I think the new M2 will also take sales from M4.
We're veering off topic, but like I said, while that was true of previous generations (coupes out-producing sedans by 3:1 or even more), it has gradually diminished to the point that it is no longer true for the G8x. As of one month ago (early May), 25k M3 sedans had been produced this generation, vs. 24k M4 coupes, just barely over 1:1 in favor of the sedan. In the F8x generation there were 35k M3 sedans and 56k M4 coupes, or 1.6:1 in favor of the coupe. There were 4 times as many E92s as there were E90s (40k vs. 10k).

If you add the 7k M4 Convertibles, then the G82/83 M4 model overall still comes out slightly on top.

Every Impreza to date has been poorly designed and no WRX fix up could save it. Yeah I'm partial to Evo but honestly every single WRX has been a fudge up when it comes to exterior design. Our heart grow warm over the time so I can apprecite the goold ol days but could you relive the moment of hate for bug eye WRX when it showed up on the street? The've kind of "fixed" it with the blob eye but compared to Evo VII/VIII it was no contest.

That has to do more with Coupe and Vert being on sale for 2 And a half years longer than sedan. F80 M3 was produced from 2015-2018MY while F82 M4 was produced from 2015 to 2020MYs. Same goes for E9x gen, sedan was made for limited time period.

I do agree with you that G80 Sedan is more desirable than M4 because it looks way better for this generation.

Manual is difficult but I would say an A6 3.0t if you can find a stick version. $15k no problem, if manual isn't a requirement you have a hilariously long list of options

The new WRX looks awful. It’s crazy how bad they screwed this car up. I live near a big Subaru dealership and have seen a few of them around. It definitely doesn’t look as good as the outgoing model.

True. Sometimes I wonder if these faux rugged vehicles come new with the Thule or Dakine ski/snowboard racks so you can drive around with them still on and open as if just pining and ready for the next adventure. Lol.
