Yes, that GT-R was impressive for that type of motorsport, but I never considered Formula one road-courses to be what I consider true racing......they are, IMO, simply handling/cornering/braking/acceleration contests. This, IMHO, is the real stuff....pedal-to-the-metal, 200 MPH+ super-speedways like Indianapolis, Talladega, and Daytona.

i'm grateful to gran turismo 6 for allowing me to learn about the bathhurst circuit (mount panorama)... with the combination of elevation changes, sweeping fast curves, tight slow corners, long straights, and just inches between you and the wall it's a great track!

hammond's description of the bathurst is also hilarious lmao

uhhh... isn't the term for that, racing?

this took place at laguna seca in california (great track btw) and if this isn't the kind of wheel to wheel brawl you're expecting in a race then we'll just have to agree to disagree lol

I understand where you are coming from...but, respectfully, that's not what I consider racing. Daytona, Talladega, and Indianapolis are probably the best examples of what I consider racing.

I would use a different term for F1......motorsport.

driving in one direction the entire time is the last thing I think of when I think of Motorsport racing. There are many other systems in the car that needs to be exercised during a race besides just left turns. 🤣🤣🤦‍♂️

I think you (more or less) are saying what I am saying......racing and motorsport is not always the same thing.

Anyhow, back to the original post.....yes, the GT-R's performance was impressive on that last lap, but it could also be the skill of the driver. Michael Schumacher, for example, managed to win many F1 events even if he did not necessarily have the fastest car on the track.

well idk if this is exactly what you mean but i will say this... F1 can be incredibly boring at times with how generally little overtaking happens, and is generally less of a spectacle than a nascar race

also current F1 has big ugly cars that sound bad, and more often that not when some real racing goes on the driver will later be charged with a penalty... too many politics are involved

these days much of the time it's more of a mini endurance race, ever since the 2009 rules were issued that forced the cars to last the whole race on a single fuel tank

back in "my day" the cars used a 3.0 liter n/a V10 that revved to over 19,000 rpm and made about 950 hp, all in something that weighed just over 1300 lbs... that's nearly bugatti veyron power levels with only a third of the weight! that's a level of performance which is just incomprehensible to me

19K on the RPMs?....that's getting up into electric-motor territory.
With the pistons and valves going up and down and operating that rapidly, it makes you wonder how the oil pump, even at that RPM, can supply enough oil pressure.

A couple of weeks ago NASCAR had a street race in Chicago on city streets and along the lakefront. Unfortunately, we had heavy rains all weekend and races were postponed and eventually shortened to get the final race in before dark. Overall, it was kind of boring with cars sliding into the tires on the turns etc. The last 5 laps of the final race were better as the drivers got more aggressive and track had dried out a bit. I'm not sure if they'll do it again. It was a 3 year commitment between the city and NASCAR but either side can back out.

dry sump oiling and pneumatic valve springs! the pistons are also highly oversquare by design, and gears are used instead of belts or chains

the manufacturing is so precise that the engine is effectively seized up when cold, just to be able to crank they need to be fed warm oil and coolant from a separate machine until they're up to race temp (at which point they idle at over 6000 rpm lol)
