I had been hoping to find a way to justify buying an E55 Mercedes. Than I started thinking that one of these SUVs for half the cost might be the way to go. Then last night I started looking into C32 AMGs. They can be had used for real close to $35K now also. By Feb. I should be able to get one with 20,000 miles (30,000 miles of warranty left) for that price. What do you guys think about those cars? I've seen them trap as high as 107 in magazine tests. I could hold it until the warranty is nearly gone and then get into an 03 E55 for pretty cheap.

If you'll be showing property as a real estate agent, DO NOT GET THE FX. The rear doors are very small and hard to get in. The interior is not small but it gives u the feeling of being cramped (probably from the low roof). I always have trouble climbing into the rear doors of the FX. Seems like the bottom of the doors are only 1 ft. wide.

And no H2 whatsoever.

So if you're going to be showing property, I would recommend a nicer sedan like a used GS or LS.

If reliability is even the smallest issue, DO NOT GET A HUMMER. hey have had more problems in the last few years than Lexus or infiniti has had in 12. The H2 is appalingly slow (something like 0-60 in 17 seconds, quarter mile in 22 or something horrendous like that) while the FX45 just looks great and is the fastest SUV tested in motor trend.

You haven't driven a FX have you? Its a great back seat rider. The rear seats recline and
are very comfy, with plenty of leg room for a 6 foot plus male. The rear dvd player is also a nice advantage. 320 hp all wheel drive !!
very very fast SUV. Coming from someone who has driven the FX atleast 20 times
Its a sure bet no doubt!!

The JD Powers and Associated consumer index quoted the H2 at 255 problems/complaints reported per 100 owners. To put things in perspective, the Lexus LS430 was rated at something like 31!! If you want reliability do NOT get a H2. Also one thing you are not considering is craftmanship, after you exit the finely crafted and finished interior of a GS, sliding into a H2 will feel like your driving a bucket of bolts!!! The ergonomics, materials, textures, etc are ALOT worse in that H2.

Like someone else said, think more about what YOU like, and what is practical/wise for your career, not what will make your buddies say OOOHHH. The H2 would probably run you a half million dollars a month in gas!! LOL

I think the FX is a nice looking, fast, SUV. Also if you wanna mix the two up (size, luxury, status) how about a GX Lexus?

I agree... GX470's are pretty cool... The RX is a front wheel drive suv, not really that practical but certainly a status symbol. The LX is a landcruiser, still pretty nice, but the GX is unique and also pretty fast!! I believe they weigh 4,600 pounds and can still do 0-60 in 8.5 seconds!

Please dont confirm my fears and say the GX is based on the highlander...

Nope based on the 4-runner

Both are unique, this is actually a tough choice.

The concensus is that the H2 looks cool but is of questionable build quality, reliability, is slow as ***** and gets really bad gas mileage. Then I heard that the back seats of the FX45 are no good for showing property. Neither sound viable for my intended application.

The C32 AMG sedan is what I've shifted my focus to. The more I research it the more impressed I am. The best numbers for it were from an Autocar Mag test 1/4 mile 13.0@107. Really a sleeper sedan that can hang with 1st gen RT/10 91-95 Vipers. Pretty amazing.

I think I hear the GX470 calling! Sounds like it's your best bet. Luxurious, refined and power if needed. The Lexus would impress your clients!

Cheers.
