Toyota recalls nearly 1.9M RAV4s to fix batteries that can move during hard turns

Toyota is recalling about 751,000 large SUVs in the U.S. to fix a problem with the tabs that hold the front bumper covers on.

The recall covers certain RAV4s from the 2013 through 2018 model years. Toyota said in a statement that some replacement 12-volt batteries used in the SUVs have smaller top dimensions than others. If the hold-down clamp is not tightened properly, the battery could move, allowing the positive terminal to contact the clamp and short circuit, the company said.
For context it's just a stupidity issue on the Rav4s not an actual problem if you aren't stupid. They are just factoring in for the aftermarket cells and stupid owners

That's some serious amps, like welding. Lol
Gotta keep that positive terminal away from the frame ground.
Like Striker said, this should've never been a concern.
But, oh boy if it comes in contact.
Can get ugly fast under the hood and maybe pop some modules and ecms too. Haha

Any pictures? Is Toyota still using the mostly useless + terminal plastic cover that breaks and falls off?
Hell yea drop a tool across battery posts and you get a spectacular show.
To answer my own question, yes they are using the craptastic cover Toyota should have seen this coming
This thing sucks

Toyota said it is still preparing a fix. When the remedy is ready, dealers will replace the hold-down clamp, battery tray and positive terminal cover with improved ones.

Ah yes, the shatter-tastic covers. I like the heavy "locking" type ones that are attached to the cables and click over the whole terminal. Softer plastic is good as well so it doesn't shatter

About time. Took them two years after the NHTSA investigated this exact issue before making a recall.

The bumper cover situation is interesting, since the IS 500 is having a similar issue at the moment. Lots of owners are having their front bumper sag below the headlight on the driver's side. (See: https://www.clublexus.com/forums/is-...eparation.html)
The Toyota one mentioned in the article seems like it's more of a safety hazard, though.

Let's see how many decades it takes Toyota to match one year of Hyundai/kia recalls!

And I'm sure it will not be a major/real issue and they are just pulling them back in to make sure the bad parts aren't there. This is unlike H/K who have repeated issues with recalled parts still failing and actual widespread issues with ALL of the parts they equipped unlike .01% that MAY have an issue like in the Toyota recalls.

By the way, this is the Toyota recall thread, if you want to go on about Hyundai there's already another thread for that.

Read what I wrote, there is a major difference between recalling ALL vehicles that MAY have a bad part to check to make sure the part installed isn't in the number range of issue (like a bad casting etc) vs a recall that brings back all the cars because they KNOW every single one has the issue and usually leads to it catching on fire at random. And then recalling it 2nd and then a 3rd time for the exact same issue lol!
