Toyota/Lexus seem to be struggling with crash test performance...

My memory was a little bit fuzzy on the C Class. I thought it was Marginal for some reason.
it is very interesting to see the new IIHS crash tests. And as a Toyota fanboy I was horrified to see how terribly they performed. Especially considering they tested quite good between 1995-2006. But when the IIHS started doing roof strength tests, and whiplash and small overlap tests they started looking less competitive on the safety front…..
My 2010 GS was not good enough to be considered a top safety pick because of roof strength and head restraints being Acceptable. And I don’t think it would’ve fared to well in the small overlap given the performance of platformmate 2IS. I do wonder how the LS would have done?
It really showed how most manufactures are engineering cars to merely pass the IIHS crash tests and no further. Volvo had been testing for small overlap crashes for years. The original XC90 was built on a platform that dated back to 1998 with the S80. I bet if you tested a 1999 S80 it would be rated Good.

Lexus Champion
I don’t think it’s fair to say “basically” everyone failed the test. Honda Accord, Acura TL, ALL Volvo models and maybe a few others did good straight out of the gate. Many other cars like the Mercedes C class did Marginal or Acceptable which was still way better than the poor performing Lexus models.

Yes. I knew Lexus cheaped out when they started to remove rear side airbags on the RX which has been standard for more than a decade.
I would never buy a car without one for the safety of my kids.

More safety woes for Toyota... apparently they rigged some safety tests.

[QUOTE=SW17LS;11634154]Lexus is not a company, it is a division of Toyota. Toyotas and Lexuses are built alongside each other on the same lines, the TX and GH are built right on the same line.
Where do I get the info? Its common sense. Why would the IIHS say that the results from the GH can be applied to the TX if they didn't have reason to believe they could be? I guarantee you will see the crash test ratings from the GH on window stickers for the TX.
How am I reaching when YOU went and made assumptions? I'm just disagreeing with your assumption and certainly strongly disagree that Lexus is a "marketing department." Is Daihatsu, Subaru, Mazda, Dentsu also "marketing departments" too? Do you even know what marketing departments do? I'm 1000% sure they dont build cars. Maybe in your universe the marketing department produces things.

It is my understanding that Car manufactures share detailed diagrams and in-depth engineering info about their cars with the IIHS. Such as the case with the Grand Highlander and TX.

Although they are, of course, better than nothing, the Government and IIHS crash-tests only have limited usefulness anyway. Many, if not most, accidents in the real world do not happen the way they are set up in the crash-test labs....and many people do not wear their belts correctly (or do not wear them at all), which further complicates things.

If you think Lexus is a company, can you invest in Lexus? Lexus is not a company it’s a division of Toyota. Just like Cadillac is a division of GM, it’s not a company. Acura is a division of Honda. Lexus and Toyota are made by the same company. Every Lexus is a Toyota. Do you really not understand that?
Open the door to your Lexus and look at the door placard, who is it manufactured by? Toyota Motor Corporation
